What did you do to your van today?

I took mine for its MOT today however despite the V5 saying it was first registered on 01/03/17 the MOT apparently isn't due until the 14th May 2020! The reason I took it in today is that we are away in Spain on 01/03/20 so I thought I would get it done early...but not that early!

I always thought that the 'Date of First Registration' was the birthday and hence anniversary date and hence on its 3rd birthday, it should be MOT'd.

It all checks out on https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status so I am not worried but has anyone else come across this?

Did it start life as a 'Motor Caravan'? some vehicles (taxis, minibuses and maybe more) start their MOT requirements from the 1st anniversary of registration, not 3rd. Maybe yours was one of those?

Not as far as I know. 'Bog standard' Autotrail, delivered to a dealer from which the first owner bought it. He then sold it to me via the dealer. It hasnt had any MOT's fr0m new and the Gov site says it is good until 14th May!

Strange isn't it?

Not exactly the van, but today I removed the camping chair backs ( directors chair type) as the top corners had become pretty worn. Missus decided her sewing machine could not handle the "double duck" canvas I wanted her to make replacements out of, so I decided to refit the originals upside down as only the tops are really stressed when leaning back.
Eight pop rivets later and they look good for another couple of years lounging in the sun... result!

Not what I did to it, more what did I do in it.
After stressful day yesterday trying to find a park up*, l drove 60odd miles to Buckhaven and thought, £od it, this will do. Parked up, heating on, book out, coffee.
I did have to remind myself, that as a retired person, I’ve now stepped out of the hurry up thing. Now that’s proving difficult 🥺
* Just cos it’s on p4n doesn’t mean it’s great. I finally found a place in a wood after dark. Not ideal.

Try replacing the coffee with a single malt to help you relax. You need to stick with retirement for a while to get the best out of it.

I cut back some branches on a tree in our front garden that we park the MH next to.

Does that count?

Right...I've got to the bottom of it.

When I bought the MH the dealer MOT'd it even though it was 10 months until it was due. They also failed to mention it to me let alone give me a copy of the certificate!

I didn't ask as I assumed that, having 10 months to run, I would just MOT it on its 3rd birthday!

Got some Glenfiddich, would that work ? Problem is of course, as I’m parked in a public car park. I’d not like a visit from the local ol’bill.👮‍♂️🚓

Yeah I doubled it up terry but it’s ideal not a perfect bit work man ship but bot side windows done and the roof light and it does make a big difference
didn’t really know I wasn’t to do the garage insides 😡😡😡😡😡
But many thanks again

Took the van back to Suffolk Campers, turbo fan now goes round without catching, the fuse replaced ( hairline crack causing issues) and a catch put on table so that it doesn't spring open when folded. No cost as snagging post conversion. Oh and he fixed a panel which kept dropping down in the passenger footwell.....had been fixed on with double sided tape stuff ( they don't make new vans like they used to!) Got the new Silverscreen to try out and then start getting stuff ready for trip to Portugal Jan.
