Currently about to return home to Portsmouth on the Santander ferry. First time using this crossing & looks like we will arrive hopefully in plenty of time which means we will need an aires or overnight stop. Can anyone recommend anywhere?

We stayed here when we arrived at Santander, bit of a hill to get into town, it was free and you could empty your grey and chem toilet.

Not exactly close to the port but the free aire next to the elephant enclosure of the wildlife park is a must visit , even if not for the night.

Stay at the free Aire near the university.

Calle Marino Fernandez Fontecha. 3.5 km from the port.

Thanks we stayed here which helped out loads as we actually arrived that night before our ferry & couldn’t find even somewhere to park. Found it on park4night but tbh no spaces so parked on side of aires. Police came but as several vans had stayed beyond 26 allowed turned a blind eye (thank god!!!). Cheers for all your replies

We stayed there when passing through one year. I didn't realise until I spotted elephants in the next field! It's a nice location too next to the water.

Have you checked if you can stay at the port?
We used to stop on the docks at Bilbao, never sailed from Santander
