I think we've 'known' for a while that after 1st Jan when we lose our access rights we won't be allowed into EU on covid19 grounds.

Been a UK expat now 10 years. No interest in retuning full time , apart from visiting family

Which borders did you have to queue? We have just arrive Spanish Portuguese border and went through French / Spanish this morning, barely noticed the border! Traffic on all roads fine but we did go main roads except N10 as easier than A10 Poitiers to A63!
Hope your leg is getting easier.....hard to rest up when driving!
