My first car way back in 1965, what was yours?

I remember at the local college one of the guys had a Fiat 127, and each term, the thick underseal got higher and higher as it was reapplied to keep the rust in place :)

My first would be what was my mothers 1969 Viva HB Estate which she gave me after passing my test. (certainly didn't look as good as the one in the picture below though!)

Had it a couple of years and used to keep in London when at college. One time it broke down and I had to just abandon it as needed to get a train to go for an interview at IBM so just put a notice on the dash "broken down" and when I got back it was still there, no ticket or anything - and this was in W1 where I lived. Bet that wouldn't happen now! Another time it stopped going as I was driving back to the halls and this was around Regent Street, where all the Foreign Embassies are. Left it in a diplomatic parking space outside some Embassy (can't recall which) for around 3 days without a problem (nowadays would be blown up as a car bomb threat!)

My favourite car was probably my Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo (actual car below)

Brilliant car. Shortly after getting it, I got stopped for speeding in a little trap in Northamption (that dual carriageway that meets up with the M1 and services by Daventry I think? common place for speeders).
Policeman was very nice about it and said it was my lucky day as he will put down I was only doing 99MPH so could have a fixed penalty.
Check out project binky they’ve put a gt4 turbo complete running gear into an old mini it’s been 6 years since 5hey started it and it’s just gone into 5he paint shop

first car which i owned...was a ford prefect...loved it......probably paid about 2o pounds for it or even less

favorite cars i owned........austin healy sprite and nissan prairie........

Moskvich, bought at 18 months old in 1974. Great car, loved it, built like a tank.
The heater in the old Moskvich was the best one in any car ,you really could burn your feet on it.Shame the body used to rust so badly.

Cortina Mach 2, learnt to drive on a Mach 1 but bought the Light green salloon in 1971, went all over Yorkshire in it, sometimes at late night, good years.

If your left foot got too hot, you just kicked the flap back up.

Was late entering car ownership as I stayed with bikes until 1973 when the Yamaha XS650/Watsonian Monza combination made way for a mini... Had it for two years and swapped the cylinder head for a Cooper double Spring jobbie with twin SU and had a set of Cosmic alloys and spotlights set into the grill, red with black roof. A great little hobby car which made way for a Series 2A Landie ( old Lil ) which was rotten but great fun. It had the speed of a slug towing a brick but we loved it...

Swing that lamp...

K ;)

Boy oh boy did I love my Landies and I would have one (several) now, but the big problem is that they are amongst the most stolen of all cars on UK roads!

I started with the posh version of a Hillman Imp, the Singer Chamois in 1972. It was as soon as I passed my test and could muster up the £100 that it cost. The insurance was £110. I got quite adept at removing the engine and replacing the head.

First new vehicle was my current Motorhome in 2016. A mere 44 years later! That was one of the many excuses we made to justify its purchase.

Mine was an A35 van, bought by me, my brother and dad at pricely sum of £15.
I had to replace the engine which was a 1100cc out of a A40 which transformed the van.
Later i upgraded to an A35 car bought for £20.
This needed a mot, bodywork and repainting, using valspar dove grey household paint and swapping the engine from the van.
No pictures, i think the box brownie was out of film.

That's posh the nearest I've got to a new vehicle is a works van.

An Austin A40 was my 1st car. This was a great little car at the time. Then this was followed by an Austin 1100, Morris Minors, an MGB, a Lotus Elan but then I got into rallying and got a big winged Mk1 Escort and another and a Talbot Sunbeam. Great days they were9EC04016-3F5E-4B58-80A6-577088E98165.jpeg

Mine was a 15yr old, when it was imported, 69 reg left hand drive battleship grey vw beetle which I drove to Switzerland when I moved there

1959 was the year of my first, a round roofed Ford Popular with a hole in the floor under the driver's side. Good for peddling up hills. Then a couple of old Ford Thames vans which were great for fishing gear. First brannie a lovely green Renault 4. £400, talk about leaning round corners it was like being on a mo bike. But good fun. Then a long line of co-cars too many to recite and not as much fun.

My first car was a Hillman Husky, that last about 6 months the I bought a 4 door for Anglia 107E, it was accident damaged but as I was serving my apprenticeship as a panelbeater/sprayer did not worry me at all, took me 2 weeks to fix it up. braw car
Now have a Volvo V90, latest in a long line of previous Volvos !!
Favourite past car was my Rover P5 coupe 3500cc V8 in maroon ,reg ERA222H tried a few time to buy it back but new owner says its not for sale !!

This was my 1932 (or 37) Morris 8 Tourer. Picture taken roundabout 1955. Note the protection afforded by the not too sturdy bumper.
It was the second car that I owned I don't have a picture of the first one which was a 1935 Hillman 10 Estate car. Passengers could see the road through a hole in the floor and you got it going by cranking a starting handle.
I stored it in a snug narrow lean-to corrugated iron 'garage' I knew that it fitted in when the windscreen touched a ribbon that I had pinned across the structure. I then was able to exit the vehicle by crawling out the back door. One day the cheeky son of the landlord moved the ribbon with the result that I drove in a smashed the back wall down. I moved shortly after that . I was told that, even then, it was not PC to smack a child!

Daff 33 automatic. Cue laughter. I was the only one who's car would start one horrible winter though.
Ah, the little Daffodil. My late father in law offered to buy one for Sue when she started college-------------she preferred the bus and didn't take her test until she was 52, that's how long the shame must have lasted---or maybe she just got herself a chauffeur---moi
