Restring a roof blind

Noticed that a couple of the cords in the blinds were showing signs of wear so thought I would restring them. Cannot be that difficult they must have an easy way in the factory.

First you need a jig otherwise it's darn near impossible to adjust. Pop rivets with the middle missing to hold cord.

Sort the spring end out first you cannot try fitting them after

The springs will bend as you pull the strings tight. They don't have to be very tight for it to all work correctly.

It doesn't matter if it finishes up like this. You just play with the tension until you are happy. You can move the blinds with the jig in place so you can get the tension just right. Once the night blind closes there should be enough tension to hold it in place.

I used 1mm waxed cord for the restring. Takes about 20 minutes to do one and get it adjusted.

Once you are happy you can crimp the pop rivets with a pair of grips to make sure nothing moves. Then release the strings and tie a couple of knots in the end.

Jig is simple to make took about half an hour. Just made from bits of scrap. You need to make sure you can get the cord down the rivet holes. Have fun.
