Hi I have an Burstner elegance motorhome and my windscreen has a crack in it, I dropped a hammer on it stupid I know.

Do I claim on my insurance only problem I haven't used it on the road for a while its not mot or taxed.

Do they load you in the years after claiming and do you have to declare this as a claim if you change insurance company at renewal.

How much are they to replace, its not a Panamera 2008 model.

Thanks

Screens can be anything up to 3 grand for some models if a class type, if just a van one you should shp around as someone may have one in stock they want shot off.

just in the process of getting my screen renewed hymer A class quoted renewal price £5k though a pattern one might only be £3.5k luckily my saga insurance will pay only £75 to pay

Was it a crack or stone chip / split ken thought 5he 3*5 was quite reasonable from stories I've heard of cost of hymer screens

Looking at our policy, the vehicle must be insured, MOT'd and road legal.

I don't understand what you mean by saying what it isn't.
Generally, an A class windscreen is £2.5k to £3.5k but if it's one with holes for the windscreen wipers, a bit more than double that price.

Don't suppose dropping a hammer means it's covered by house insurance, does it?

And yes, a windscreen claim has to be declared and might put your premium up.

One post wonder by the look of it.

You can get windscreen repair kits following the instructions I repaired a 4" crack from a stone chip been ok for 5 yrs now

Yes, windscreen repair kits are well worth trying if the crack isn't too big.

It's a good idea to have the kit in stock so you can crack on with the repair (sorry!) because chips turn to small cracks and small cracks turn into big cracks and big cracks turn into MOT fails.

I’ve had to claim twice now for windscreen cover. Once for a van type and once for A class Hymer. Hymer screen had to be brought in from Belgium. I paid excess but the cover was the same price the following year, no hike

very pleased with this reported my cracked screen to Saga on the 3rd two guys rolled up today & replaced it hymer A class so 14 days , think i was lucky the two guys fitting it are a specialist team large vehicles don’t know where they had been before me but their next job was in carlisle then dumfries one in durham then doncaster i obviously fitted on their circuit

I’ve had a nasty big chip on mine since it was 6 months old had it repaired worked well but now I’ve noticed lately its got slightly bigger so it may need a hammer dropping on it. The Same hammer I fixed my wiper motor with

If it was repaired by Uutoglass it will be covered by their warranty. Had my fixed 2years ago, now spread further beyond repair, so they see giving me a new screen. Absolutely no quibbling.
