French and Dog Crap

You can travel through Spain and use campsites. If there are more French than Germans there is more dog crap on the pavements. Don’t they ever clear it up. Just come into France from Jaca. Had a nice walk round Jaca all nice and clean. Arrived at French Aire and been for a wander round the village and there is dog crap everywhere. It doesn’t take more than 30 seconds to clear up after your dog. We always have bags with us.

..

The French have an aversion to picking up 'la merde' although some towns such as La Touquet provide free 'sacs' along the Promenade to encourage the Locals to pick up the mess - but they don't, the dirty Johnny Foreigners........

💩

I see this behaviour at French ski resorts even fellow camping car owners allowing dogs to foul next to other camping cars

And they even allow their male dogs to cock their leg against my winter silver screen that comes down to the ground , now have to build a wall of snow around it

And they just stand there with a blank look while the dog on a lead is doing its business

Must be horrendous after a thaw

Makes me think of that old "Carry on" line "The French are revolting" Personally I've never seen it, but often had to wash dried urine of our tent in the mornings.

I remember the first time I went to Monaco back in 88 and still a smoker. Me and a mate parked our bikes then walked along a front/promenade that seemed like marble paving. We both remarked on the fact there was absolutely nothing on the floor. That was until we were walking back and saw the tab end I had dropped, felt guilty and picked it up and that was unheard of back then.

i assume they must have had dogs there so either they did pick up or had folks going round doing it for them

My general impression is people from UK are more than likely to pick it up (unfortunately not all) .
Can't say I've noticed a huge difference in mainland Europe countries . Guy came out of an office in Spain to thank me for picking up .
Drunken conversation a while back , somebody remarked that you never see a white jobby anymore . You do in France and Spain etc .
Have to say small towns and villages in France tend to be immaculate

We’ve just had a night at Saveterre de Bearn, a lovely French commune in the foothills of the Pyrenees. We went for a walk yesterday afternoon and we had to pick our way through piles of dog poo. It’s disgusting and it really puts me off France.

What annoys me in the UK is folks who have picked up and bagged it but then leave the bags in trees or on the floor. I can’t understand their thinking at all, is it they were seen so bagged it then dispose of bag as soon as nobody is looking?

One of the great mysteries . You see them all over . Apparently people just throw them in hedges . Cornish farmer , who lives on a well known walk , was telling me when hedges are being cut the air is thick with dog shit and shredded plastic

Quite simple really
The French have rules/laws and ignore them.
The French government have (EU) laws and ignore them.
Because we are French "Eh Oh Eh Oh Eh Oh!"
C'est la vie

PS In Italy
People (male and female) frequently pee in carparks leaving tissues and worse.

Don't think it's just Italy . Motorway services , mostly France and Spain , you'll see guys just pee against nearest tree . Toilets 30 yards away

In Spain at the moment, we are parked up on the beach with about a dozen other vans of all nationalities. Late last night a car pulled up in front of us, a women passenger got out of the front dropped her trousers and went to the toilet in front of our van! And yes France and Spain is full of dog s**t.

It was in the 90’s last time I was in France I think but I can’t say this is something we noticed anywhere we went. We stayed away from city’s and most larger towns though. Is this a new thing with dog poo or did we drop lucky?

if luck we were very lucky as we went over three it four times a year for a lot of years. Only thing that struck me about France in a bad way were there riot police (sp something?) saw them deployed against peaceful groups of bikers at cafe bars fir no reason we could see

Not uncommon late at night in British cities

So, having lived in France I can confirm that the French consider it good luck to tread in dog poo, I don't think they really think so but they don't get hung up about stepping in it.

Not really sure why a lot of French people bother having dogs, they don't generally clean up after them, and have seen dogs in France being kicked, whipped with fly swats and generally given the proverbial dogs life.

Just came back from France having spent 7 weeks there. Had three weeks in Aug too. So that's 10 weeks in France this year. Didn't notice any particular dog crap problem that was any different to UK. In fact saw hardly any rubbish there either, compared to UK where people just throw anything out of their car windows, or dump it wherever they like. And don't get me on he subject of public services. Makes the UK look third world.

I think it depends maybe where in UK and where in France. We noticed a few places were terrible in France and others really clean. Same in the UK, our town has bags available on most streets and they are used. Haven't really noticed a big problem anywhere in UK recently, though. It has become more antisocial and anyone observed not picking up could well be offered a bag by another dog walker!
