DVLA delayed refunds

I've had the same, SORNed in March but still charged for April.

Given how many people have reported the same circumstance, I suspect that as has been said, it is just a case of too many SORNs (there must be many a thousand, not just motorhomes) and too few staff.

I got a text message today saying:
"DLVA: Your outstanding vehicle
tax refund from an overpayment
is pending. Please visit out secure
link to process https??dvla.ukgov-form ......" (removed the full link")
message was from 07340 329710

Now as I HAVE made an overpayment, this could be legitimate, but I am suspicious as the UK Govt use the domain and naming format "gov.uk", not 'ukgov'. I will not be clicking on that link!
Anyone else got this message who HAS made an overpayment, or for that matter, who has not made one and got this message.
Given far more people while have SORNed vehicles recently, it could well be a popular theme for scumbag scammers to pick up on.

Further to the message above, I have just noticed that I have received a refund of the April Road Tax payment taken after vehicle was SORNed so all sorted out automatically and by itself :)

For info, that's a known scam. DVLA say they will never send a text message about this sort of thing. Here's a couple of links to help: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/scam-warning-for-dvla-customers; https://www.swansea.gov.uk/article/38147/DVLA-vehicle-tax-refund-scam

I don't like that they issue refunds by cheque. My bank is closed at the moment, the nearest alternative is 18 miles away, so I can't pay cheques in. Another reason why I haven't bothered SORNing anything.

Depending on the bank you're with, you might be able to bank the cheque via a phone app. You photograph both sides, fill in an onscreen form and upload to the bank. If that's not available, or (like me) you have an aversion to Internet banking, you can bank it at the Post Office in most cases. HTH, Geoff

I haven't visited a bank branch for several years. Can't work out what they're for, to be honest. When people send cheques, I post them to the bank, though now I think you can send some banks a photo - after all, that's what they do anyway: the banking system eventually realised that you don't need to transport bits of paper to transfer the information

Since we live in a rural area without banks I always post cheques to the bank asking them to pay into my account. Never had a problem with this.

Over the last 3 years I have had several dealings with the DVLA
Replacement Vehicle Document/ Driving Licence
Changes of address
one or 2 telephone calls
I have found them to be helpful, responsive and documents have all arrived in good time.
Ok these are simple tasks (Ie not such as re-classifying a vehicle).
But yest they would get 5 out of 5 (usual scale of 5 = very satisfied down to 1) from me !
Same with HMRC

You can always post it to the bank with a letter giving your details...I have done this !

Yes I could do that - but why should I have to?

I paid them direct from my bank - they should be able to pay back to my bank.

HMRC can so why not DVLA?
