in olhau yesterday 6 of us went to a locals restaurant recommended by sue casa de pasto almirante 200 yds from the aire it only has about 40 seats but was packed when we arrived at 14;15 with 9 people waiting outside we eventually got in at 14;45 , luckily our waitress spoke good english and was very welcoming there were 8 options on the menu del dia but only 6 available by the time we came to order we had lots of bread butter and cheese to start , chicken tuna, mixed meats and a special pork stew were our orders though i had the chicken jan’s mixed meat was staggering and lovely luckily she needed me to help her out there was so much, couple of choices of pudding we also had 4 beers and 2 ltrs of wine , to finish we were offered sherry portugese brandy and the local moonshine Aquarendo de figo distilled from figs it numbs all sensation on the first sip , the total bill €10 a head unbelievable we paid 60 for the food and left €15 for the welcome great experience will definitely return
earlier in the morning we had been round the market on the seafront there are twin market halls each with approximately 40 stalls one specialising in fish and sea food the other mainly fruit and veg with a couple of butchers stalls, outside there were probably another 80 stalls again all fruit and veg punnet of lovely big raspberries and another of strawberries came to €5:30 at another stall 5 big jaffa type oranges were €2:20’ lots of honey also being sold and much as i love it the 5 ltr jar for €30 was just too much View attachment 77825

Heading for Portugal too Roger, although couple of weeks ahead of you and just a wee bit closer. Presently at a Camper Stop in the lovely Jerez de la Frontera heading for Tavira tomorrow. Very welcoming with a glass of sherry on arrival…..and the suns finally come out again, what’s not to like.Heading South tomorrow (Sun 22nd March) towards Portugal.

We’re in Tavira until Wednesday where are you planning to park up?Heading for Portugal too Roger, although couple of weeks ahead of you and just a wee bit closer. We are there, we like it here. Very handy for Tavira and a biggish shopping mall with a Continente in easy walking distance. The trains go through about once an hour, no bother. You don’t have to park next to the railway. We’re in the first half along the road in a Rapido plot no 25 come along and we can tell you a couple of restaurants to try. - this is our umpteenth visit - we might even offer you a glass of wine if you come in the eveningWe were heading for Algarve Motorhome Park, although it’s big it seems in a decent position for Tavira……as long as you like trains it seems judging by the reviews.
