This Thursday I attend Golden Jubilee Hospital (GJH), Clydebank. Friday I received a call, all electronic, press one for name confirmation, etc. Then onto appointment detail, press one if you will attend on the date and time, and so on. Finishing with "if after this call a reason arises for you not to attend your appointment, please contact us asap". Do other UK NHS hospitals use this system outlined above, or is this GJH only?

What a simple and great system.

Yes we do though it is a text you receive a reminder about your appointment but with the same click to attend click if you cannot attend and click to change appointment very efficient and far better than hanging on the phone listening to YoU ARE CALLER No ???

A great time and money saver I thought. But I guess this may not suit everyone, especially auld folks who struggle with simple IT tasks.

I wonder what the next step would be with non reply to phone call, a letter?

Doc sends a text as in Annies, but the Bradford hospitals send me a link via text and email which you have to put all your details in the read a bloody letter, okay if you only have one to read but I have several so I have to fart about til I find the right one, if it's the wrong one, back to the beginning.

We had real problems with appointments at GJH in that they only ever sent out letters, not ideal with an erratic postal service. Good that there has been improvement. On one occasion we attended for a life or death decision appointment only to be told it had been cancelled, quite a shock after nervously waiting for weeks.
Here we get appointments by text and should we fail to respond a letter is sent. The text links to a pdf with details and a calendar link. All appointments with consultants result in a letter detailing discussion. This is often available online also on the NHS app.

I quite like getting the emails when I get one and I’ve opened the link I take a screen shot so I don’t have to mess around keep opening them after the appointment I delete the screenshot so I only have pending on my phone much easier to keep track.

I hate them because they also send a letter so I just ignore them.

Jeffrey, I would incyst your doctor gets to the bottom of this and clears them completely. :giggle:

Just an update on this, Jan 23rd had assessment. Game on for the op, dates discussed, I explained our plans for March with dates and for a work around this, or leave till after our return in July.

I received a letter with op date of March 19th, I called the GJH to say op date was too close to my travel dates, and again I explained my travel itinerary. I also stated do not cancel my 19th appointment, I would take the hit and cancel my shuttle booking, rebook after my eye had fully recovered.

Oh don't do that said the lass on phone, will you take a short notice cancellation, you bet says eye......I mean I. Leave it with me she says. Following day, phone call from the GJH, are you available on the 26/2? Yes I am, so there you go, what a great experience from the GJH Ophthalmology Dept.

What I am struggling with to understand letter I received late Nov last year from NHS Lothian, stating I was on a list to be assessed, but could not offer me a date. Yet when I take matters into my own hands, chasing, speaking to people, great progress is made, and positive result. Even if I had to wait till July, this would have done me, as far better than not able to be given a date by my own health board!!
