MiFi power lead

I have a Home WiFi unit that has a 240v adaptor to get down to 12v 1 amp for the unit.

Is it okay to just run power from the leisure battery via a fused circuit to the unit or will I need to restrict it to 1 amp?

You don't need to worry about restricting it current wise, but ... I think you DO need to use a regulated supply to provide a 12V supply, not just connect to the battery as you could end up feeding over 14V DC to it and that may not be heathly for it.

I have a Huawei mifi that I do that with , has been fine so far :)
You have a 240V supply for a MiFi? Usually they have a USB (5V) power input so can use a 240V-USB adapter or a 12V-USB adapter.

It’s the Home WiFi Huawei 311 Dave

It isn’t the little MiFi it’s a bigger router

@wildebus sorrry your right , it was a unit with a 240/ step down , but it is a USB/12v in the RV , I was just haveing a look to be sure when you posted . :)

Yup, I get that :)
My comment still stands about importance of voltage regulation (devices designed to use a 240V transformer are typically not forgiving of variable input DC voltages -this is why I built a Buck-Boost setup to output a set 15V when I converted my Amazon Echo to use via the Leisure Battery)

Yes I agree Dave, never thought it through properly, motorhome WiFi do a power supply but so do eBay and Amazon

How much are they?
I'm just about to build another one for 12V to use on the Amazon Echo Spot but maybe just buy one :)

Motorhome WiFi sells at £9.99 but ebay from 99pence. I should have checked a day sooner and could have got one Prime before we left.

At the Frog now then will be going far North so may have to forget it for a while. Bright it with me just in case I drop on something that does the job or for when we get EHU on empty out days :)

I built this one yesterday for my Echo Spot I just bought (it needs a 12V supply)

12V Regulator Box

12V Reg board, plus fuse holder and a pair of screw terminals that I mounted on a PCB and built a lego box around it. Then 12V Accessory Plug one end and a multi-pin connector the other on flying leads.

Cost a fair bit under £9.99 to build, but factoring in the amount of time it took, a ready-made one for £9.99 is actually much better value generally (unless your time is free, whch mine is for my own stuff of course).

99p option? Sometimes things really are too good to be true! What exactly are you getting for that 99p?

The 99p is just the board and you have to add all connections.
I would have bought the MH WiFi unit comes with a micro USB connection where I would need a round connector so would still need to do a little work. Not bothered about a cigar connector, bare wires would do me as I will permanently fix with fuse.

Don’t suppose you are coming to the Frog this weekend Dave :)

I am. Planning on arriving Saturday Afternoon if I don't get run off the road by ejiets in Hatchbacks or Muck Spreaders.

PS. I used those multiway plugs so I can can cut the standard cable and then then easily switch between the DC supply or the supplied 240V AC Plug (I fit the same multiway to the 240V plug).
There are so many different jackplug standards around it is pot luck whether you get the right one or not (I usually end up with the wrong ones :( )

I've never had a problem with using a direct connection from a 12v plug

Couldn't you order and have it delivered next day to Amazon Locker? There are two locations near Moffat.

Wildebus..... Just demonstrated the full depth of my electrical knowledge...looked at your photos and thought " Lego???" Won't try anything myself...promise!

I have various little boxes and they are not that cheap to buy and never quite the right size either - and had this "eureka" moment ... Lego!
And that will be my solution from now on :p

Things have now changed, there is civilisation ( just ... lol ) including a few shops north of Moffat and they even have tarmac on the roads o_O

Ha ha didn’t mean it that way lol

More likely to find what I want online or certainly a lot cheaper. Don’t want to go where there are many shops or Caz will want to go shopping lol

Sorry,I missed this earlier. I could have done that and if I had spotted your post earlier I would have done, never even thought of locker. I will try to remember to check if this is an option anywhere else we will be. Thank you :)

Didn’t end up doing anything while we were away, forgot o had it with us lol.

@Dave, do these look okay? I will do as you suggest re connectors and I may be hard wiring these in as I have a few different things I could use these for

Dc to dc power supply
