Hi Gordon

A couple of weeks ago on Shell Island, a member's van wouldn't start, so my Suaoki kit came out for the first time since I bought it. It worked a treat, despite the charge being down to 46% when we started. It's certainly not cheap but the whole kit with compressor and a gazillion charging connectors, is very compact and light. This is pretty much what I bought, except mine's orange and a thing of sheer beauty

The photo on the link makes the kit case look like a big briefcase but it's really not. Mine's a tad smaller than my 14" laptop. The charger unit itself is shown in the pic below, so you can get a better idea of size. You can get the charger without the compressor and all the attachments but I thought the whole kit was worth having and it certainly impressed everyone who saw it in action at the meet.

I have one which I have used on numerous occasions while my van had a bad starter battery and also used it at Duridge to help out with someones dead battery.
I can't recommend it at the moment as not currently available, but in principle they really are a great idea and worth carrying - and IMO no need to spend over around £70 to get a good one (mine was under £50 and starts my 2.8L diesel.

I almost bought this, but the reviews are not that good.

I totally agree David, you can definitely buy pure starters of equivalent or greater strength for less but in my case I really wanted the compressor too. Not that long ago, I paid over £40 for one of those big and heavy yellow starter/compressor cases but it was just too cumbersome, so it now lives in the boot of the car, with my little Suaoki in the van :)

Something is amiss with either the picture or the description on the one above....

It say "New 600 Peak Amp Emergency Jump Starter with portable Air Compressor gives you SAFETY PLUS: Enough power to boost most passenger vehicles on the road today!" But the unit pictured does not have an Air Compressor feature.

I know this because that is the unit I have :) (and it definately does not have an Air Compressor).
It is a good unit though (I paid under £50 for mine).

trying to find a listing for the unit I have with the right description and it is this one - https://amzn.to/2RmdKEn .
but the prices for these have all shot up it seems :(

I have had an Antigravity Micro-Start XP10 power pack for several years now and it gets used an awful lot. Main use is for starting my Massey Ferguson diesel tractor as it was cheaper than buying a new battery! However it has also jump started my 2litre diesel car. It comes with USB ports and I also bought a mini compressor attachment. This easily pumps up the huge MF tyres as well as my motorhome tyres to the required pressures. Not cheap but highly recommended.
