The French Resistance fought hard and paid deadly for their loyalty to their country.
In Reims there is a memorial to those members of the Resistance who suffered at the hands of that particularly vicious group of people known as the Gestapo. It's a small, beautifully kept park:
Lining some of the walls are plaques in testimony to the terrible loss of life:
Today the park had one or two people paying their respects but far more young lovers in flirtatious conversation and embrace.
It was sobering to observe the juxtaposition of hate and cruelty with love and care.
And what an appropriate place for the lovers to demonstrate how worthless hate and cruelty is.
