Hi Everyone,

As the admin of Motorhomer and Wild Camping for the past 21 years, I’ve always been grateful for the amazing community we’ve built here. Today, I’m reaching out to ask for your support with something very personal and important to me.

I’ve recently written and published a book called Guided by the Source. It’s a heartfelt project that I truly believe can make a positive difference in people’s lives by helping them find balance, purpose, and a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them.

The book launches today 1st December 2024, and I’d love for you to support me by purchasing a paperback copy on launch day. If you’re willing, I’d also deeply appreciate it if you could leave a review on Amazon after reading it. Honest reviews are invaluable to independent authors like me—they help the book reach more people who might benefit from its message.

To ensure fairness and transparency, if you’re happy to do so, I can reimburse you for the purchase cost (including postage) via an Amazon gift card. This way, you can buy the book through your own Amazon account, ensuring it shows as a Verified Purchase. If you’re interested in this, please contact me privately for details.

This book is incredibly important to me—not just as a personal achievement but because I genuinely believe it can help others live happier, more meaningful lives. By supporting the book and leaving a review, you’re not just helping me—you’re becoming part of something that can inspire and uplift others.

Thank you so much for considering this. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Warm regards,

Philip Tomlinson

Completely inappropriate.
As was the email.
I honestly can’t see anything remotely inappropriate about someone who has spent decades bringing like minded people together and has endlessly helped people here and at WC advising by e mail and on the forums of this project, which he has obviously devoted much time to. If it is of no interest personally then just ignore it.
Sometimes I despair!

Nothing inappropriate at all.
Phil has helped countless forum members over the years and I’m sure lots of them will, as I have, support him in his new venture.
When I ticked the box to say yes, send me digests and mails of the Wildcamping forum, I didn't expect that database to be used for personal reasons by admin.
Promoting a personal financial product is, in my opinion, an inappropriate use of that data.
This post on the forum itself was plenty to promote the book.

See other reply.

And I'm sorry that you thought it fine to use the data you collected in regard to this forum, and use it to send us all emails about your book.
I wish you well with the project, but please do not send me any more emails promoting personal products.
And please keep an eye on the insults I'll no doubt gather for making this post.

I completely understand and respect your perspective, and I imagine others may feel the same way.

Over the years, many members have expressed interest in knowing when the book would be released. Given the website's seasonal nature, with fewer members visiting during the winter, I felt an email was the only way to ensure everyone who might want to know about it was informed. This decision wasn’t made lightly, as I recognise the trust members place in using their contact details.

I want to emphasise that my goal is not personal financial gain. As soon as the book was released, I requested Amazon reduce the price to the “cost of printing” plus their fees, ensuring I make no profit from sales. Additionally, I’ve offered to refund the purchase cost to any member who buys the book, even though this will incur a loss for me.

My intent is solely to help others through the book's message. While the associated website, GuidedByTheSource.com, may generate some income, its purpose is to support and expand the book’s positive impact.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. I truly appreciate the opportunity to address them and hope this explanation clarifies.

Perhaps worth a quick peruse of the terms and conditions which you have signed up to https://motorhomer.com/help/privacy-policy/

I have little problem receiving the E Mail as easily deleted, but agree with you to a degree as I feel it akin to Polititios buying votes?

How more honest do you need?
I don't want people to be deceived with false 5-star reviews. I want people to give honest reviews of the book. If they thought it was awful, then they need to say that, but hopefully, they would say it constructively.

The book has been proofread, and I know that the people who have read it were happy with it even if it was not their vibe. I hope that people can review the book in an honest unbiased way,

nothing wrong with requesting people post a review. that is pretty common nowadays. I'ev occasionally sent out requests on this forum myself asking anyone who has stuff from me to post a Trustpilot review. What anyone who responds to that request is up to them.
No one is saying a review of phils book should be anything but honest and genuine.
