A Strange Year

Exactly a year ago today we flew over home en route to San Diego, thinking that we’d sit out the covid outbreak with a month or two in Palm Desert.

Of course things didn’t work out quite as planned and following FCO advice we scurried home 4 days later, on the next to last flight out of San Diego. The aircraft we were on a year ago today is now in a museum, and the one we came back on is scrap.
The initial lockdown came a few days later and everything really did stop. At least the weather was wonderful in April and May.
As restrictions were eased we had a few trips out in the van through the summer and even made it to a couple of meets. A highlight was attending the worlds first drive in airshow at Shuttleworth.

In October we had our last freedom to travel and made the most of it with a few days on the West coast.

Since that trip our van has not moved.
Hopefully we’re all over the worst of restrictions, looking forwards to being out in the van again in the Summer.

Too right Bill, what a strange year. We were pretty lucky in that we managed our annual 10 day birthday trip in the van in early March before restrictions kicked in. We then managed around 10 various nights or so “away“ in our van in our field during lockdown. Late September we took the van down to Taunton to have a lithium set up installed and managed a couple of weeks touring north Cornwall. Then a few days away locally before being trapped again. Spent last Friday night in our van on the driveway though (field a bit boggy). Let’s all hope for better things this year.C67CEEC2-1FD9-47A4-935A-24C541A46694.jpeg

We were in Spain last winter when Covid started to really take off. As we were driving back through France in early March, there were message about the virus on the overhead gantries. We took about a week to get back via the centre of France and there were no masks or precautions to be seen.

Within a fortnight I think we were in lockdown.

When restrictions eased, we managed a week in Cardiganshire near Aberporth in November. We took the car as its less than an hour from home, and managed to get out and about despite the weather. We then managed a week up in Cirencester visiting friends and family in early December.

Since then, the same as most folks...nowt!!

Have booked most of June away (Cornwall and Devon) and will get out and about when allowed locally. Planning Italy for September IF things are in good shape to do so (vaccination passports; foreign travel rules etc etc)

we managed three four night breaks in between lockdowns on Dartmoor exmoor & Bodmin moors so made the most of the restrictions!!!

Hello bill & suzie hope you both well!
yes what a strange year, we have made many new friends by being locked down in a small Stadt (Rain) in Bavaria.
Lucky for us they have a very active English school and we have been helping out with their online English lessons and at one point held a question and answer session in the local castle gardens , all in exchange for pizza and weißbier !
keep well and hope to see you out and about soon A&J

Hi to you both, great to have you back posting. Certainly a strange year for you but great to hear that there have at least been some positives in it. Likewise, hope to see you in a field somewhere soon.
