Aircon Compressor leak

Hopefully a simple question.

Can a small leak on the casing on an aircon compressor be repaired, without forking out the high cost for a new unit?
Lost about 5% pressure while on test over 24 hours.

If it's made of Aluminium or steel I'd say yes but access might be the hard part unless you remove it, assuming git is on the roof of course.
