After a break of several years I've recently re-read Richard Dawkins book 'The God Delusion'. I find it a very persuasive read so tend to visit and admire churches and cathedrals as inspiring buildings rather than places for me to worship.
And Reims does it for me:

One can only guess at the number of man-hours that went into the construction. There is so much painstaking detail in even the highest parts of the edifice that could only be seen by the original masons or modern day visitors with binoculars.
I'm in awe of the builders.
There is so much to appreciate. The glass window depicting the skills needed to produce the local wine (Champagne), the huge glass window above the entrance:

The metal beasts above the entrance:

And my favourite, the Smiling Angel:

Looks like the lass has just had a win on the lottery![/QUOTE]

I have wondered whether Leonardo da Vinci knew of the Smiling Angel prior to starting work on Mona Lisa.

Colin :):):)

It looks impressive.

I don't know about winning the lottery, she looks like she has scored a winning goal and is punching the air in celebration.:)

My favourite is York Minster, but then i suppose i'm biased.

It had been beautifully restored.
I am not religious but regularly thank religion for the church and monastery architecture. They given a town or village a focal point. The only times I’ve been truly appalled is at the Vatican where there is obscene ostentatious wealth.

Lovely pictures when ever we visit a new town or city always check out churches or cathedrals they are amazing buildings and the workmanship is unbelievable and fascinating to read about the history when we visit cathedrals
