Can anyone suggest suitable places to go with a motorhome to get a chance of seeing the Northern Lights. When is a good time to go? What are the chances of getting a glimpse of them?

The Scottish Borders at the East Cost is actually a fairly decent location for that. I've never seen them myself up here but got friends who live around 10 miles away and go out looking at them fairly often.
 
There is an app AuroraWatch UK, It regularly gives a heads up on the likelyhood of a event, free to download.
 
The Aurora app no longer Emails you notifications because of EU regulations changing what data can be held on individuals, it now requires that you check for Aurora yourself, the App is very good and is operated by Lancaster university, well worth having.

We lived a few miles west of Aberdeen when I was farming in Scotland and saw the lights on many occasions,admittedly sometimes better than others.

Thank you for the info, wondered why I hadn’t seen any alerts recently.
 
I was at Lossiemouth for 5 years, saw the Northern Lights several times. The further North the better but do not plan on seeing them, sometimes you are lucky.
 
The AuroraWatch app can still send push notifications to your phone. If you are not getting alerts I suggest you check your app settings and also your phone settings. On iPhones you need to go to phone settings - notifications - aurorawatch and make sure you have allowed notifications and probably all 3 alerts. In the app you can select the level of alert you want none/minor/amber/red.
 
The Galloway forest and Keilder forest are good dark sky areas. It's a shame the Aurora watch emails from Lancaster Uni are no longer viable, It seems staffing costs and time also contributed to its demise.
 
I found the emails much less use than the instant phone notifications that they still send. By the time I notice an email the event could be over, whereas a ding on the phone and a banner saying Aurora Alert gets my immediate attention. Just a matter of using the current technology.
 
Maybe if possible go to Kielder I’m sure it’s supposed to be one of the dark spots for things like that
