My brother lived in Waihi not far from this place. He loved it there and in the Coromandel's. He never camped there, but climbed the Mount Maunganui many times. He would have been saddened to see this happen in the country he called paradise. Very sad indeed. But have you noticed? Once the drama of this happening, nothing more, no follow-up. Six people are now known to have died and because of the location, most seem to have been tourists.
The victims of the landslide have been named as Lisa Anne Maclennan, 50, Måns Loke Bernhardsson, 20, Jacqualine Suzanne Wheeler, 71, Susan Doreen Knowles, 71, Sharon Maccanico, 15, and Max Furse-Kee, 15.
