Backup(s) and SyncToy

For the last 3 years I have been using a cheap & cheerful HP Stream.
Under £200 and OK except no disk space for photos etc.
I actually like that as I keep all my photos dashcam data etc on a 500GB external (USB) drive.
As in the Title I use synchtoy to duplicate the external USB drive to another.
Synctoy is handy in that when you first run the synchronisation it does a simple file copy but faster than a simple windows shadow copy.
It is also good in that when you re-run the synchronisation it simply adds newer data.
I also have a USB caddy (which needs mains) and this is a further backup to older SATA drives which have been salvaged from various PCs and laptops

Just yesterday I ran the sync to backup my primary external HD to one in the Caddy.
Having formatted the "Caddy drive" this was effectively a full data backup and took 75 mins.
Lucky in that the primary external HD has failed and no "Trickery" has brought it back to life !
So now busy getting a reserve sync done.

Thanks to DG and Jenny and others for their posts on WC re data backup

PS I now have a new fast ASUS hybrid laptop/tablet wwith alot more disk space But my strategy is the same..
All photos and video on the Primary external disk

As with the HP Stream spreadsheets and the like are kept on the Laptop but synchronised with nice Mr Google
(although one-drive or the like do the same job)

You will note I am happy with cloud storage for limited data but do not like it for video and large photo datasets
Like many I have an extensive photo collection going back to "morocco 1990" when I got Kodak to process my films and burn to their Kodak CD format
