Battery +ve ring connector doesn't fit

After a lengthy but spirited discussion, I eventually got a supplier to accept that the battery he sold me last year was faulty. I took the faulty one by car and brought back the replacement and went out this am to fit it to my Ducato-based Bessacarr. But when I fully tightened the +ve ring connector it was still loose enough to slip up off when I went over a bump. I wrapped a few thicknesses of tinfoil around the terminal which got me home but I need a permanent solution. Should I try fitting a different connector or do I add something to widen the terminal. The -ve connector is fine as it is spring-loaded. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

By "Battery Ring Connector" I think you mean a "Battery Post Terminal"?
An example:

Lots of different styles of these and what you need depends on what style you have fitted. I would probably get a replacement.

Terminal posts are tapered, undo your clamp fully and use a screwdriver to spread the clamp fully open. Push the clamp on right to the bottom and tighten the bolt.
Now that makes sense! I'll try that as soon as the sun comes up. Thanks.

Wonder if that was the problem with the battery you took back loose terminal.
You can easily replace with one of these

The garage who supplied the initial battery took it out, charged it and refitted it before it failed so I'm clear the initial battery was at fault. But thanks for the advice re replacement terminals. Appreciated.

Took yr advice this am. 3 minutes later, job done so took van for a run to revive batteries, brakes, etc and now all perfect. I'm nearly 70 and annoyed about how things I used to do without thinking now pull me up. I realised this am that I had the same issue with a lime-green Escort (v. tasteful) in the 80s. I discovered then that battery terminals are tapered so how did I lose that? Annoying. Anyway, thanks to you St3v3!

We forget things like going up stairs and dont know why we went up, only when we come down and find the front of our trousers wet we then know why we went up in the first place. 😂 😂 😂 😂

that's why we bought a bungalow!

Years back when the first Jap cars were imported they had smaller terminals, anyone remember them.

Can I hijack this thread with as I just had a similar(ish) issue?

We just bought our first motorhome and 2 days later the battery died. Tried to jump-start it with no luck so decided to take it out to get it tested-when it was tested it failed (was only installed by previous owner 3months ago). When taking it out I noticed the battery post terminal was not tightened up enough and I could simply pull it off (although still in contact), my question is, could this have been enough to ruin the battery or is it possible there is something within the motohome itself that caused the battery failure? (Just to say I am working on the assumption the battery was good to start with and also, I have been through all equipment in the van and all working properly)
