Taking a friend to look at a 2006 Iveco Daily this week the photos that they sent him look good, I know nothing about these van's so if any owner can help me what to look out for good or bad please would be great .Thanks

3.0l engine has chain drive. Rear axles can give trouble, gear oil in diff gets contaminated with water & eventually takes out the wheelbearings & collapses the axle. Avoidable if diff oil is changed every couple of years. Other than that I think they're pretty bombproof. 2.8 has a belt but I don't think they're prone to anything bad if serviced regular. Mine pulls like a train, drives pleasantly & is good on diesel for the size of vehicle( 5.5tonne, 3.0l 140bhp 6 speed gearbox) & I love it! Thought about a Marc before I got it, glad I went with the Iveco now tho...

my kid's got a 4.2 ambulance and i had a daily .they're like driving a lorry compared to other panel vans , but she loves hers , and i liked mine too . hers has got air suspension which makes it much nicer to drive . solid bodywork too

You can sometimes get a knocking on the front , sounds like suspension is shot , but is just a body mount that de-laminates , not expensive , and easy to fix. If left sitting for long spells can get sticky calipers on front , again just dismantle and grease , job done . Other than that they are strong , reliable , and go well. The chain drive engine in later models are ones to go for .

Torsion bar front suspension can cause a bit of bounce, the 2.8 standard injection ok but the later ones i dont know much only what the parts men across the rd in iveco shop say the older ones were best, rear brakes are easy to work on after 2000 as discs ,power steering good and mine drives like a big car, watch out for low gearing on some city models,i had to change my diff to gear up,ten times the van com to ford, same sofit engine as fiat.

Went to look at the Iveco today with my friend and I must say he had done the inside of the van very well and the body work was good, so we went for a test drive I can understand why he wanted to drive I thought I was in a tank how noisy was the engine he had a problem changing gear at one time and told my friend it was because it had not been used for 3 months. After the test drive we had a take about it my friend fell in love with it so I said tell him that you will pay the asking price if he will take it to a garage just to have a look at it and he would pay for, the owner refused and said he had not got the time to take it, so we just said thank you a walk off . shame because my friend liked the van and said if it was just something silly to fix he would still buy it.(n)

If in doubt walk away. Plenty more on the market, the Daily seems fairly popular among converters so you should find another easy enough. Either way if it feels wrong, it probably is....

If the wrong oil is used in g box it eats the brass sincro rings and they become hard to change until warm ,think you did right to walk away.

(y)I have a 2007 MWB Iveco, and it's superb, and as others have said, it is like driving a truck, which I really like. I had a little difficulty changing gear at first and had to change my driving style, using a full clutch to change gear solved that problem. I've had to change the rear nearside brake caliper, and the front body mounts had to be changed, the design of which has been changed, and the front sub-frame supports were changed last December. They are very well built and are all rear wheel drive. One annoying thing is the dual mass flywheel, which makes you work to get a smooth set-off, but not a big problem.:)
