Bring back the good old days

Good old days ?? no thanks ice on the inside of the bedroom windows, no Duvets just a few coats on the bed, an inch of ice sticking out of the milk bottles , blue tits taking the metal foil off the bottles to get at the cream, left on the doorstep by the grumpy milkman, following him and his Horse to get his droppings for the garden, the Horses that is hee hee black and white tv, if you were rich, an old Singer or Austin 7 car that would never start, 2/6 d pocket money, walk to school or ride your bike if you made one yourself.one miserable coal fire to heat the whole house, holidays consisted a week to Wales in the pouring rain in a tent , if the car got you that far that is, had to sit up in the shed a few nights before Christmas on Chicken watch in case someone nicked the Chickens that you had fattened up for Christmas day Dinner, Penny for the Guy to buy your Fireworks, Carol Singing to make a few BOB , remember BOB to buy Christmas presents, Take a bucket full of veg peelings and food waste to the end of the road for the PIG BIN that stank and was seldom emptied by the Pig Man. school was a nightmare, who wanted to know what king did this or that or was killed in this war or battle Geography was bad to who cared what crops this or that Country grew etc.wearing second hand clothes handed down by your Siblings, I went to school dressed as a girl for several years hee hee and once as a Japanese Admiral after my dad obtained a box full of clothes from the Village hall amateur dramatic society hee hee. highlight of the year was Apple scrumping and Conkers . Nah these are the good old days right now just a blip at the moment sad but true, remember Margaret Thatcher ? we had 3 Million out of work then A 3 day week due to the Miners strike and no Electricity, thousands of folks lost their homes and businesses, because of Government policies and the YUPPIES ?

Sorry, but that post definitely deserves another look at this.

Playing out in bombed out buildings, walking to school was normal ,black rings round shirt collers from pollution and coal fires, cooking on a yorkshire coal range , no bath toilet at the top of the garden ,rag n bone man's horse and cart , lots of snow in winter , queues at phone boxes , their was life before mobile phones, ,knocking on doors to collect newspaper for free bag of chips.

Wales? In a tent? Luxury, we ‘ad our holidays in an old shoe box.........etc.

I remember the ice on the insides of the windows, lighting the fire with a gas poker, three day week, power cuts and 18% inflation in the early 80’s and the recession causing 15% inflation in 1990’s.
Good old days? No, you can keep them!

Some elements of good old days, I would keep. Community spirit, neighbours, and kids playing in the street and free to take risks, climbing trees, making go carts etc. Less internet and more human contact too is appealing. Jack frost on inside of the window, chilblains, outdoor loos, no heating, weekly bath, less happy to bring back.

Good neighbours were important as most women stayed home ,they did not have the time to work ,then came the biggest lifestyle change , ever disposable income

I also remember in a chemistry lesson at school we was all crowded around the teacher who was mixing some chemicals in a glass jar when it suddenly exploded covering everyone in chemicals , I got it in my eyes and the pain was tremendous , after a trip to the toilets to wash my eyes under the tap it was back to the classroom to carry on with the lesson . If this happened today I would be a millionaire with the compensation I would receive

And dont forget going to the PUB on your dinner break , having 3 or 4 pints then going back to work , you would not get away with that today o_O:oops:
Unless you work in the House of Commons, get a cheap meal too, then! Except at moment while locked down.

Does anyone still get chilblains and mottled legs from sitting too close to the fire?
Good job we have duvets now, the army greatcoats have become more rare.... Dave used to share a small bedroom with his three brothers and the lucky one got dad's greatcoat at night. Four bunk beds in small room meant they generated a bit of body heat anyway!
