Used to take caravan up Porlock years ago. I did the alternate old toll route once but never again. Hill was ok with my SaabManaged Porlock Hill in 1968, but had to turn around and go up in reverse! It was great looking backwards at folk who hadn’t made it and were sat looking at steam rising from their bonnets. I’d just bought my first car, an Austin A35, and we were on our way to a BnB at Woolacombe, I can still remember the ladies name, Mrs Yeo. When my father heard I was planning to drive up Porlock, his only remark was ‘Remember… Reverse gear is a lower ratio than first gear!’ He was spot on, of course. Happy days!
Wynatts pass isn’t on the cycling tour of Britain for nothing! It’s not very long but I would have said Wynatts Pass is steeper than Chedar Gorge
Google themDid Wynatts pass unknowingly several years ago in my old 2002 ducato with a dodgy synchromesh in the gearbox, when second gear finally gave out setting off in first was fun to say the least. stayed on main road through to Buxton since then even after changing vans.
I've know of Porlock and Cheddar did these in the car, where are the other 3 of six?
Having a midday moment, just remembered your original post at top of pageGoogle them
Blige! He sounds like a proper professional trucker! If he is that sensible in his normal, unrecorded day job, he needs to show some others how to do it!Ironically I watched this a few days ago, his video on road pricing is worth a watch as well.
