Calmac

Why can't they get a simple news story correct?

Why can't who get a simple news story correct?
The BBC story is dated 28/10/2024. According to the A&S Herald, Calmac did not advise until 31/03/2024 that the trials had been unsuccessful.
What do you think is incorrect?

The Beeb Tom.

I didn't read the BBC clip Tom but if the dates you quoted are correctly then they reported incorrectly.

As I said I didn't read it all Tom, I posted it as point of interest.

Just for the record, I get news notifications all day long, I think I'm a fairly generously spirited person, so I post the odd one, 99.99999% are a boring subject so I don't even open them, I felt that something to do with Calmac might be interesting to the forum members with it's loose connection to both bikers and Motorhomes, so I posted it, I hope to keep the forum lively, life is pretty boring most days for me so a busy forum keeps me going as I rarely get to visit my friends so I have to make do with you lot, poor me eh? I'm of the opinion that anything goes here (almost) and if no one posted it would get very quiet, so I start new threads.

I for one think that your posts help make the forum better.

Since it’s twice the size of the Ben my Chree I think it would be much too big for the ports.
I know I just saw humour in the title Bill and that it's coming to Scotland.

You'd think they'd keep it nearer to home though.

We’re on our way to Guernsey next week by car and taking the Condor ferry from Portsmouth which serves both Guernsey and Jersey. Got the attached item in my notifications the other day. It would be really stupid if Jersey now chose DFDS (the competitor to Brittany Ferries in the bidding process, Irish Ferries having dropped out).

Thanks for the heads up! FWIW, a friend has invited us to join them for a lap of Arran and so I tried to find out the potential cost of ferry fares for our van, only to meet some confusing content (we're over 3.5 tonnes and so it wasn't clear whether we'd be in the HGV or motorhome class) and also the height limit seemed to be 2.5m. So I phoned only to be told by the Calmac person that she didn't have the info and I'd need to phone the port. So, I looked up the phone number for the port to find it was the same number I'd just called! Shaking my head, I could only conclude that the right hand of Calmac do not know what their left hand is doing! Since our friend needed an answer, we had to say "no" as there's no way we could risk a trip North from Cornwall to Ardrossan only to be denied passage...

Motorhomes have their own pricing on the Arran ferry distinct from HGV. You pay according to length, not weight. There isn't a 2.5m height restriction.
Thanks for that. Unfortunately, it's now too late as I had to give our friends an answer at the time. FWIW, when I tried to use the online booking system to check fares, a weight limit of 3.5 tonnes for motorhomes was at least implied and the greatest height available from the drop-down menu was 2.5m -- so I phoned for clarification (01475 650397). The lady I spoke with tried to find out but said that the booking had to be made with the port and I'd need to check with them. So I went to the Calmac web page for the port (https://www.calmac.co.uk/article/1940/Ardrossan) and found that the phone number was the same as the one I'd just called! From this, I concluded that I might actually need to visit the port -- a round trip of just under 1,100 miles -- to find out. So I spoke to our friends, who agreed it just wasn't worth the risk and so they're going to come down to Cornwall next year instead!
