Campsite on Trip Advisor

I watched a Youtube video the other day and the people mentioned a rather less than ideal experience of a particular campsite (they were remarkably restrained considering what they got for what they paid i.e. they didn't get what they paid for and was advertised).

I thought I would have a look at Trip Advisor and see what others think.
There is certainly a common theme in terms of the wardens response for anyone posting negative reviews! check out the replies to the 1* and 2* reviews and see what you think?

Our local pub right next door, wouldn’t wee on the campsite if it was on fire, stayed there one night for a family party whilst full timing in the Concorde! Even though we went in the Concorde and booked a pitch whilst there, they then decided it was too big when we arrived for party, the toilets were being cleaned between 6-30& 7-30 on a Saturday night just when we wanted to freshen up and get ready, and on leaving after paying an extortionate rate we’re told we couldn’t have any fresh water

I don't think I'll be visiting that site anytime soon ......... sounds worse than CAMC 🤔🤔🤣🤣

Y'know many pubs will gladly let you fester in their car parks and what you are likely to spend there will be rather less than one would spend on a campsite with nowt less than a place to stop. On our way back from France a few days ago because of Sue's health problem we had to stop a couple of times overnight ( ok, it was only a days journey back to Glossop, but sometimes stuff happens) and twice we pulled into a pub car park and asked if we can stop, no problem was the response, not Brit Stop, just a couple of pubs en route when Sue ran out of steam. So bite the bullet and ask any pub on the way, they'll probably be more than happy to have you

We use Pitchup.com for the rare occasion when we are forced expose ourselves to close proximity and the often antisocial behaviour of other campers

We’ve only had one bad experience of a site with supposedly good reviews, the site was so unwelcoming we drove in and back out again, the so called hard standing was really just a turning area. The grass pitches were mostly sloping, the owner who was not on site had called earlier (I later realised they had overbooked) and said we could park in a field full of tents if the hard standing was full but the people in the tents has other ideas, and made it quite clear we weren’t welcome.

It’s one of the reasons we never pay in advance in full, losing £5 deposit does make it easier to drive away.

The site was Morley’s Farm in Sevenoaks, no idea how it has the gushing reviews it does online, but I appreciate someone living in a grim inner city drug ravaged war zone would probably think it wonderful!

And that is the problem with reviews one can’t gauge the metrics that individuals use to make a comparison.

Same applies to the apps like P4N which often are overly kind with the reviews.
Someone looking for anywhere out of desperation may well judge even a noisy dangerous lay-by beside a busy A road as nice but I wouldn’t

I think the moral of the review story is to ....... totally disregard the top 10% and the bottom 10% and take in a sample of the middle ones.
And .... if there are no recent reviews walk away.

Well .... actually, I think the moral of the review story - and the point I was making when I posted it - was not the actual reviews, but the way the host responded to anything he (AND she) didn't like by insulting their guests.

And .... if there are no recent reviews walk away.

Wildebus- I agree with you I was simply making the point that online reviews are not to be relied on ... I am especially wary of trip advisor reviews having had bad experiences in the past.

@wildebus , yep 100% agree any host that is as arrogant and blinkered as that when receiving constructive criticisms shouldn’t be in business. But maybe, just maybe, a lot of their customers are just plain orrible, then perhaps they all deserve each other, just keep them away from me please 😀

Reading the way some of the answers regarding the visitors behaviour ...

I can understand the owners/wardens attitude with them at times .

I have to say some of the reviews I've read in the past before visiting sites where visitors complained of the wind or spiders in the facilities blocks etc ...
Have been some of the nicest spots we've visited ...

very likely some customers are terrible, but what you never do is insult your customers like that, expecially in such a public way.

Although my jobs have been technical in nature, for the vast majority of my working life I have essentially been in a customer-facing role and know what would be deemed appropriate and what would not. And those wardens attitudes would not be in any circumstances.

PS. I don't know who owns the site, but if I did and that warden worked for me, one thing I would immediately do is remove his access to respond to any on-line reviews! :)
