top off the morning to everyone,
was wondering if anyone here had ever been to the castle howard estate ( huge estate , lakes, gardens, arboretum, ect ) or more specifically
been to the STEAM and vintage fair, classic cars, trucks, trade stalls, fairground, and more, in the past. its on this year on 25th may to 27th may bank holiday with camping facilities either basic in field camping/parking for up to 5 days ( 24th till 28th may) or on there main proper campsite that costs more. personally i think the standard camping field is better value as it includes all days admission into the show for 2 adults and access to water and toilet empty point. but my point is does anyone know the correct route into the estate for higher vans, coaches as to ovoid the arches perimeter wall entrances with height limits. if anyone has been to the estate in a motorhome before please could you let us know the best way in, thanks kindly Paul

We`ve been to Castle Howard a few years back and the access is straight forward. the archway is a lot bigger that it looks on Streetview.

It is not cheap to view the house and gardens, scroll down to see the prices

Personally i think it`s a bit on the pricey side for what you can view but i`m a bit of a tight bugger anyway.

We was staying on the C&CC site a few miles away at Sheriff Hutton and the streetview image is the way we drove into it.

Driving down the road it looked a bit daunting but when you get up to it you see just how big it is but does require you to slow down a little for the width only one vehicle at a time can get through.

I don`t know which fields they will use for the steam fair but it will be well sign-posted and the access will allow articulated wagon carry steam traction engines to get there as well so don`t worry about that.

If we aren`t abroad we are thinking of going, weather permitting.

thanks again Wooie, have to nip out in car now for few hours family visit, but drop us a line if you decide to go to the steam fair, catch you again

I presume that this is what used to be the Pickering steam fair that has had to move because the land at Pickering where it used to be held got sold off for development, if so it will be a great weekend
