Concrete drilling advice please

I have a suitable drill and various bits
The largest bit on view is 10mm and I need to drill through wood into concrete.with this size .
Should I drill a smaller hole first ?
As you can see the concrete pillar is substantial.
The other drills are 5mm and 6 mm happy to get an 8mm if that helps.
As you see tyhe wood is fixed and in place I am just looking to make it more robust.
I plan to drill through the wood with a 10mm wooddrill

Long 5mm masonary bit straight through the timber and concrete post use hammer when in the concrete

Drilling smaller pilot holes then opening them up to required size is the way to go

Thanks very much I thought that may be the way to go.
The planned additional fixings are really just Belt & Braces.
You can just see a couple of the original "drill then fix" bolts/screws.
The verticals are also hung from a beam using pictureframe type fixings.

Rawlbolts which anchor into the concrete are very good but need a larger hole (there are different sizes )
The advantage of rawlbolts is that it has a larger bolt and washer to hold the timber in place as apposed to a screw which can cut into the timber

Concrete screws are also very good especially as they require a smaller hole and no plastic plugs are required as the screw cuts its own thread straight into the concrete though you would probably need an impact driver to tighten them up

Yes..all done now....Nice and strong/firm.
It is not construction standard..Just supporting a trellis arrangement.
Raining again now here. Unseasonal heavy rain normally it is dry and cool(ish) over late October to Feb.
