Hi Guys,

long time lurker, first time poster.

The wife and I are seriously interested in a 2006 burstner 747-2 for sale. It’s to be viewed over the weekend. From what I know at the moment the only concern I have is a crinkled rear panel. The small dents are from bikes on a bike rack so they don’t bother me but I don’t know what would make ripples like that. should I be concerned? I’d be interested to hear any views.

Dents a scratches done worry me but I think I would want to know why that is like it is. Can’t help with an explanation though sorry.

Welcome to your first post.

That's a seriously big tag axle and I suspect it has a rear garage. Is it possible that there are tie down strap fastenings near that external rippling. If the previous owner had been overtightening a motorbike housed inside it might cause it.

Either way, and I don't want to be a Job's comforter, it would annoy me every time I looked at it. Not the answer you wanted, so sorry. ☹️

Am I correct that the 747s can suffer a bit of butt sag after the 3rd axle? Then they’re expensive to fix correctly. I would definitely want to know what’s going on, it’s clearly not right

Just a guess but to get ripples like that would to me require a certain degree of contraction and expansion of both the outer panel and the inner frame if the panel is bonded to it. Whichever way you care to look at it it’s not right.

I wouldn’t walk away from that I would run .without spending a lot of money to fix it I imagine it would be very difficult to re sell. Whatever you decide I wish you well.

Thanks Guys. We still haven't viewed it due to me getting Manvid but my well still see it. Perhaps all will become clear it person but I fear a satisfactory explanation won't be found.

I hadn't thought of it's large rear end sagging over time (control yourself). I was more thinking accident damage. Either way, not great!

Thanks for your time guys.

Not accident damage but expansion and contraction of dissimilar materials/bonding etc, get a grand or two knocked off the price and wear dark sun glasses.

Thanks Trev. That answer tallies pretty closely with the owners explanation which was apparently given to him by the local caravan specialist. To be fair if it was a sagging bottom there would be crinkles on each side too. As long as the wrinkling hasn't buggered up any seals and caused damp, that's what I'll be checking for.

Thanks again

The Plasticks on the right locker looked warped to me looks like it could be some kind of heat damage. Maybe parked up with that area in direct sun for a long time.

Don't worry about it, it is due to the way they are constructed. I had the same van but with a different internal layout (Burstner Active 747-2) and it looked similar to that one. I had it over 5 years and it never changed.

I spotted the same. Heat damage IMO, no idea how though.
