Data simm only cards

I need to buy a data payg simm card I usually by a 12 month 12gb ee internet with legs ,that works out OK for me .can anyone recommend better payg deal Bazz

I use the Three 24gb valid for 24 months direct from Amazon at about £45. I find it fine for use at home and in France. I don’t stream or Skype. Mainly used for Motorhome forum browsing, weather, news sites and emails etc. Coverage and speed are acceptable. I have to point out though I have no experience of any other company, so difficult to compare.

We're currently using 2 sims.

> A 15G/month EE data only rolling contract (we can duck out with 30 day notice) for £20.

> a Simyo (spanish company) data only 4G prepay card - 30Gb for 28Euros, we just chuck 28 Euros on occasionally and get 28Gb of 4G that lasts (iirc) 3 months.

Both cards are fully roaming (in EU) for a reasonable cost.
EE (allegedly) only allows 15Gb of roaming per month (other UK telcos are similar - 3 currently only allow 12Gb).

Together that gives us the ability to burn through a Gb a day - which we actually seem to be doing. We both "work" online and use a Huawei E5577 with a MIMO arial ( https://www.motorhomewifi.com/product/4g-huawei-e5577-mifi-window-mount-antenna/ ) for most of the access.

Funnily enough this tends to give us a faster connection than a lot of household broadband connections in rural France (we're doing a lot of house/dogsitting)

We also both have EE mobile accounts with some data allowance and full EU roaming - mine has 10Gb/month, the wife's is (iirc) 2Gb a month.

I have just started using Three 12gb / 12 months with a wifi dongle, I previously bought a £10 top up and converted it to 30 days, but I only really need the data so the 12 month option is better for me and I still keep some credit on my phone if I need to make a call ( which isn't very often

You may be able to connect to the WiFi dongle with your phone and make ‘wifi’ calls rather than conventional call, not sure how widespread it is but I have been doing it quite a while on iPhone 7 and 6’s

Hi Guys,

I can't get broadband at Home (too far from civilisation) so I have a 30 day rolling contract with Vodafone, which gives me 50gb a month for £27.00.

The good news is that we can just pop it in our MYFI device and take it with us when we travel (home or abroad).

We have a roof mounted aerial at home, which gives us about 50mbps on a good day, it's lower when we are travelling, as we can't fit an external aerial to our MYFI.

Depending on what your home broadband costs, something like this could work for anyone.

Regards,

Paul

what router are you using at home is it powered by abrick psu and what voltage could the not be used in motor home with ext ant

Who do u do your house sitting through?

Only last week my 30gig EE sim (£30) was due to expire so I rang to give Months notice (or they'll just continue) and was offered a 15 gig for £20 BUT as it was an upgrade I'd get 15gig for free!! , so, same 30gig for a tenner a Month less, result.

Surprising what they can offer if they think you are leaving - good result.(y)

Something I have found out the hard way with my MiFi is to turn off Google Play Store updates on my phone, I forgot mine was turned on to download on wifi only because it only updated on my home wifi or if I was in Tesco/Morrisons or similar. Of course the MiFi is treated as normal wifi so Google was updating my apps and using up my data, had to check the Windows setting on my laptop as well

Hi,

Sorry for the delay replying.

Based on your suggestion, I contacted Teltonica and it appears that my Router will run on anything from 9 to 30 volts, so I will be doing some experiments in the van.

It's got two connections to it's outside aerial, so I'm looking for an antenna with two connections to it.

Might be a good solution for us.

Regards,

Paul

Living permanently in my motorhome my MiFi is essential. Last year my MiFi contract, 20GB for £32 per month, with EE was due to end so I phoned them to cancel and they offered me 32GB for £19.50. Great result. Having recently toured the extreme north of Scotland I had no problems with getting a signal. My backup Vodafone MiFi I find is pretty useless, even in Cheshire, so I’m dumping Vodafone.
