When Roxy is on her lead sometimes she chock's herself, we have a Halti lead which has elastic in a section to stop tension on her neck while pulling when she see's anything she can chase with a padded Halti dog collar....... They say you should use a harness on little dogs to take away the bearing on the neck
Putting a harness on her would result in the issue's she has, We have never been able to resolve any of the issue's she had when she was rescued..... it as took us over 2 years to get this collar and lead resolved......... no chance of getting anywhere near with an harness.......

Not much into bondage. Tried it once. Someone said something about a whip round, didn't like the sound of that

Try using a Halti. They give you much more control over a dog that pulls all the time. Something like this one.

Just checked out the link thanks. The problem I have is that my dog has esp, and just knows when you plan to do something to him. The teeth come out and not in a playful way but in deadly earnest. When he was spayed we spent over an hour trying to muzzle him, and eventually he had to be given an injection in his rump to calm him down, but still carried on fighting.

We have a rescued springer. When we first got her she was a nightmare. She would pull so hard that she would only walk on her back legs !
No matter what we tried, nothing seemed to work. We even tried dog behaviourists without luck. Eventually (after a couple of years) she has calmed down and walks quite happily in a harness most of the time.
Fortunately, she has not got a bad bone in her body so resistance never rears its ugly head.

When we first got our pup I put a lead on straight away and I must say she walks absolutely great on it, which surprised us Lorraine if you don’t mind me asking what issues does your dog have?

I often use harness and halti - lead has Double fasteners so attaches to both. The halti stops him pulling so much. And the harness allows me to turn him and direct him without putting pressure on his snout.

The harness we have goes over the head and then clips in two places around the body. Sounds like your little dog would not allow you to put anything over her head.? Perhaps you can find a harness that does up only round her body and she would accept that with time?

When I got Reg, I don't think he'd ever been trained to walk on a lead. He used to drag me around at top speed. I learned to walk faster so it didn't look as bad! Dogs Trust recommended using a harness as that would give me more control. I did try using a Halti, which had worked well with my previous pooch (till he learned how to rub it off quickly if I stopped to chat) but Reg just pulled so hard on it, I was worried his eye would pop out. Now, two years later, he isn't so bad and I often just walk him with his collar. The harness is used when travelling.

You can get all sorts of harnesses which fasten in different ways. The ones Dogs Trust use go on sideways and fasten with two clips, one around the chest and one around the body. The one I use now goes very quickly over his head and has one clip around his tum, the only tricky bit is making sure his ears don't get fastened into it.

We use both on Taya a collar for just round camping areas or at home but if we are going for a long walk we put her harness on as she can get her collar off and don’t want that happening near traffic.

I used to use a collar and harness and Halti for training, He is a lot better now so most of the time I now use just a collar.

We think the last people that owned before we rescued her who had 3 children used to dress her up..... and dropped her
she won't let you get near her, to put anything on her (coat, harness, fluorescent collar, brush her etc.) you can,t get near her to use a towel to dry her (We have mastered the collar but it as taken over 18 months
Once l got fed up after people thinking I'am cruel not putting a coat on her when it is freezing (I am dreading the coming weeks I feel so guilty) In the early days Jeff picked her up I was determined that the coat was going on ..... she started breathing heavy while snapping at us then she urinate all down Jeff it wasn't worth putting her (Roxy) through that, she was very nervous, always going away from us for hours spending the time under furniture and if the air freshener went off she would dive away she was a bag of nerves, she never ate for over 3 weeks, we got through it with hand feeding, she wasn't socialised with traffic (they only took her to private school in a handbag .......... don't get me wrong she is a pleasure now, very much liked always wagging her tail and very friendly with everyone she now weigh's 3 .6kg she was 2.4kg 2 years 4 months we have had her 18 months

Aww bless her our granddaughters especially the youngest one who is two absolutely loves her to bits and she knows to be gentle with her and not try to pick her up, I have used the brush on her since we first got her which I’m pleased because she’s going to have what they call a puppy bath where she gets bathed clipped and nails done haha proper pamper day tomorrow for her! It’s just awful seeing them upset especially when it’s through no fault of their own,we’re going to get her a coat more so now she’s getting clipped it’s mainly to get her used to it,but it sounds as if your getting there with her albeit slowly
