Dometic fridge resurrection

Our friend Michael who lives in Portugal lent his A-class Burstner to his son, forgetting to warn him about fridge use. Above the freezer is the oven and son heated a pizza. Apparently the fridge must be turned off, and cooling fans engaged when the oven is used - and they weren't. Then the fridge wouldn't work at all.
Michael told me he would try to find a used cooling system, or source a new one.

Now another friend Michael who lives 50/50 in Portugal had told me how he fixed it when his own fridge failed: he took it out, turned it upside down for 24 hours. Put it back in and it worked!

I passed on the information, the fridge was removed but couldn't be inverted because of the oven, so the cooling unit was removed, inverted then replaced. Again success at no cost! Apparently it's all to do with the 3 essential constituents of the cooling system (liquid ammonia, water and helium or hydrogen) getting separated out.

No apologies for posting this if it's something that everyone else has known since the age of 2, but if you didn't know, and it saves any other fridges from the scrapyard you're welcome to the information. If you're interested in the science involved, try putting Absorption fridge into Wikipedia.
