EGR Valve blanking

Does anyone have any actual experience of blanking the EGR valve of a 2008 2.2 Peugeot=Puma engine. Why did you do it? What was the effect, if any?

I used to fit these on Mitsubishi 2.8 td's but have no experience of the Puma.

Yes, I know its illegal etc etc and many will want to express opinions but I am only interested in actual experience of doing this.

I had one blanked on a 2013 2.2 transit luton, caused nothing but problems so ended up having a new one fitted, whilst the idea of an egr is unnecessary, when its meant to have one and then doesnt it seems to affect the engine.

My son also had it done on his 2.0 ford kuga and it killed the engine and he scrapped it.

Also depends if you have the remap or not, some are fine, some are not, if you can then I would just get it professionally cleaned or replaced with the correct parts.

My van kept going into limp mode and I was told it was the ear, my non ford mechanic said just blank it off, it was never the same

I am only interested in actual experience of doing this.

Not experience of this engine, or of doing exactly this, but lots of experience of working on engines.

Over time they have got more and more complex, to the point that even mechanics don't really understand what is going on in there.

Generally they have good knowledge of what goes wrong and how to fix these common faults.

Some of them have good experience of the long term outcome, others not so much.

EGR valves have been giving problems for decades. Early ones could be blanked off fairly harmlessly, but more complex engines run nearer the limits.

My suggestion is that before making a structural change to how the engine works, you ask a garage (or ambulance) mechanic who has seen the long term effects of doing it on lots of vehicles, not to owners who may have done it once or twice.

Generally a blocking-up EGR is a sign of an issue elsewhere in the system. Hiding the symptoms of another defect rarely ends well.
