Electric cars and Insurance.

They seem to be changing the entire rating system for everything, I suspect virtually everyone’s insurance will increase as a result.

What that video doesn’t cover is EV performance, mines surprisingly quick but I am pretty sure the group it’s currently in doesn’t reflect that

Vehicle insurance has to be one of the biggest rip offs most of us have to stomach it is, for the vast majority a huge amount of money down the drain annually with absolutely nothing to show for it, even NCB is a joke now!

I cancelled a policy recently with 10 months left to go I got a tiny fraction of the policy fee back

It occurred to me especially for those unlucky enough to be paying thousands to drive a beaten up 1.0l hatchback about that maybe pro rata refunds calculated on a daily basis should be made mandatory

Just renewed my Tesla Model X insurance with LV at roughly 15% increase on last year premium. Still well under a grand though which I don’t think too bad for a car that can do 0 to 60mph in 4 seconds! Being an oldie I’ve never done that though (except perhaps to escape from Dundee on the A90 heading north after the final roundabout!)

I went down to Sheffield on Tuesday in the MG, I had forgotten to turn off the nanny software at home so I pulled into a layby, turned off lane assist and waited for a gap in the traffic, saw my chance and nailed it, Jesus, I my face went round the back of my head, and that only does 0-62 in 8 seconds, lord knows what 4 seconds feels like Tony :D :D

Everything on the dashboard and in the storage tray in the centre console falls onto the floor or my wife’s lap!! And god help any bottles of wine in the front or rear boots!!!
And mine’s only the bog standard version, the performance model does it in 2.5 seconds.

All things are relative they are still slow compared to a reasonable capacity motorbike but absolute rocket ships compared to my van!

My EV has a reasonable 0-60 time, not massively rapid but it’s the off the line initial acceleration that is impressive assuming, it maintains traction, it’s got too much power for a fwd vehicle running on dire eco tyres!

it takes a very capable pilot to get those sort of times from a bike though, none of this modern lunch control on the original hairbrush….

Also not recommended to do any excessively enthusiastic throttle twisting whilst wearing bright yellow fireman’s waterproof trouser as they don’t have good grip!

Good cure for constapation though. :eek:

@trevskoda
It’s quite entertaining what happens is a kind of cascade effect, as my friend (cos it obviously wasn’t me) slid down the seat the effect causes one’s fingers to begin to roll open the throttle even more. At the same time one’s feet start to become detached from the foot pegs, the bike then becomes at bit unstable not helped by the fact it was probably running on those vile early nylon Bridgestones…..

Btw the bike was an Xs1100, 0-60 was relatively slow by modern standards but in its day once rolling it had a pretty good quarter mile time

Allegedly!
