European breakdown cover question.

We have had our European breakdown cover from the same company for about 5 years, this covers us for up to 90 days per trip, with unlimited trips in the year,
till our renewal came through, they are now limiting it to 90 days EU cover with 31 days per trip.
As we spend a lot of time in France ( we have a house here and will be here permenantly by the end of the year) usually 2 to 3 months at a time.
So, we need new breakdown cover for our 21 year old 3500kg van, any ideas?
We really want similar cover to what we had before, people have mentioned ADAC, but I heard they no longer accept new UK members.
We could, I suspect give our French address, but we have a U.K. registered van, which, I fear could cause confusion.

Check the bank accounts. Nationwide & Barclays incl mhomes and I don’t think there is a limit on duration or total period. Unless I’ve missed it.
failing that ask your insurance company to quote.
maybe not bank for that size van!! Sorry

Could it be that your insurance company want you to put an extension on your policy which if true, would no doubt cost you more on your premium? I would check with them first before contemplating anything else though. In the meantime, have you looked into what a French insurance company may charge? Addresses aren't confusing-I would have thought it best that any insurance company have details of all addresses/phone numbers you have rights over where that policy is concerned.

I spoke to the breakdown insurance company and they said their underwriters have reduced the cover, they are trying to negotiate with different providers, but they won’t know the results for a couple of months, our policy expires on 30th May. We have separate vehicle insurance that doesn’t offer breakdown cover, neither does our bank. I think the confusion I referred to with our French address may be because it is classed as a secondary home and asking them to cover a UK registered vehicle may present problems. Even so, I may ring ADAC and see what they say. I suppose we would need to specify a repatriation address.
anyhoo, I think I have found a company in the U.K. that offers 90 days per trip, but I will have to investigate further. They are offering a good price, less than our current renewal

Comfort Insurance offer 365 day breakdown cover as an option on their motorhome insurance, they use DAS Underwriters providing M/C Assist. Might be worth looking into the underwriters in case you can take out breakdown cover with them. Or lok at moving your insurance to Comfort

I tried aib for full time insurance, they said they only insure vans less than 10 years old and costs would be upwards of £1000! I also tried them for normal insurance a couple of years ago and they were double the price of our present insurer.
i got DAS breakdown cover for the car but didn’t realise they did motorhome insurance. I’ll have to investigate.
