The plastic cover on our electric socket on the outside of the van has warped and so no longer clips down very well. As a result it blows up as soon as we drive at any speed. Has anyone suffered similar and found a good solution please? At the moment we tape it down, which doesn't look good.

Mine was working fine but was discoloured, so I took it out, got the make and size and bought an exact replacement (ABL Sursum make in my case) from coastline campers. 5 minute job to swap over. Only about £12. Also got a new Truma gas vent outlet and fridge grilles - all in sparkling white instead of the ageing brittle yellow. Small touches but looks much better on white van. Bob

We had a similar problem. I was going to get some of those very thin but strong magnets and glue them in place. On further inspection the plastic was brittle so I decided to replace it. As mentioned in earlier posts, they are cheap (if you look in the right places) and easy to replace.

It’s an annual issue for us. At least once a year one of us will forget to thump the cover closed propetly and it will open up on the motorway snapping the little plastic dowels. Thankfully the covers are realively cheap to buy and when you do replace them you realise how much it at yellowed in the sun and how much better the new one looks anyway. ?

Yes they’re cheap enough, but a pain to have to find and buy. Like ***** above I just use a couple of small pieces of Velcro to keep it secured. I seldom use a ehu so I don’t know how durable it would be if used continually open/close etc.

We have successfully used heavy duty Velcro on a couple of vans. Our present van has factory fitted magnets
Did wonder about velcro, so thanks for that...looking at the range of replies I think it easiest to replace the socket

Yes, its does look a bit discoloured as well so replacement seems the best option

Hmmm, do they also supply anti-wrinkle face masks? Naturally I'm perfectly preserved but 'er indoors'... too much sun in the past if you get my drift...

A hot glue gun and some neodymium magnets do the trick well enough if the socket is in otherwise good shape.

Replaced mine after clip went, it used to annoy me flapping around when looking in the side mirror, purchased online and was surprised at the low price very easy to replace and looks a lot better as it is now white and not a dirty cream with lumps of gaffa tape hanging off.
