Fire Safety Stick

From another extinguisher thread.
These look very useful for our situation cause minimum mess, maintenance free, and can be used on any type of fire, different sizes available too.

Linky Here and another Link Here

Have seen some demonstrations on youtube of the JE 50 types.
If you do decide to use a fire extinguisher be very aware of its and your limitations.

They do look good but can anyone improve on these prices...

Blimming expensive!

As it goes the 25 second ones seem to be 47 quid from the car places listed on the website...

10 year shelf life does make them more economic I suppose

Think Gadget John put a video on YouTube about these

That's a very good point...so equivalent to, what, two fire extinguishers?

I'm not sure it would be worth getting more than the 25 second one as we would only need one to help us get out of the MH if it was on fire and if we couldn't do that in 25 seconds I guess we might be doomed!

I worry about it’s danger to your health. Shouldn’t all the finishes in your motor home be fire retardant?

If the fire stick has a shelf life of 10 yrs, and the fire extinguisher has a shelf life of 10 yrs, it comes down to weight, cost and length of time it can be used.

Very good under test conditions, but in reality you wouldn’t want to get so close to a real fire, especially in a motorhome. The smoke would be very thick and acrid and all you would want to do is get into fresh air so that you could breathe. A fire stick would perhaps smother a small fire but wouldn’t actually cool the burnt fibres down so there could be a chance of reignition. If the fire was outdoors and there was the slightest wind, I think these would be a complete waste of time, as the nitrogen needed to suffocate the flames would just get blown away, unless you could get very close, and risk getting burnt.

I noticed in the video that the demo was outside, with the burnt and unburnt gases being given of by the combustion process, coupled with the gases given off by the fire stick, I wouldn’t want to be in a confined space such as a motorhome for the duration of the fire stick operating breathing those fumes.

I think I will stick with my water mist extinguisher, probably easier to use without getting close up to the fire. Heavier, bulkier and shorter spray time than fire stick but enough to escape and again no mess or toxic products.

It killed the car fire no problem, if concerned about the fumes, you could just trigger it off and leave on top of the cooker and vacate?

The company guy who came to demo the stick recommended lobbing in the stick and getting out. Life is more precious than bravery.
They work really well btw. Expensive though.
Most extinguishers are kinda nasty and can't be easily disposed off when expired. The local tip won't even take them if they still have something inside. The firestick can go in your recycling as it's just a metal tube.
The least toxic would be CO2, but that can snuff your lights out in a confined space. Get rid of it if you have one.

Looks a great idea, but I would worry about the delay between setting it off and it being ready to use it. Waiting around for 5 or more seconds to use it could have a big impact on your safety.

The water mist ones are non toxic and safe to use on all fires, including electrical. They starve the fire of air and damp it down, they sound ideal for motorhomes.
