Flat hose

Bought a flat hose on a reel as thought it was neat/compact but am finding it difficult to wind it back in and get all the water out ? Had to wind and unwind three times with a helper to get it to fit neatly back in the reel case. ?
Anyone got one.? Any tips?
 
It gets easier with use and practice..

We have one but use it infrequently as we tend to do 3x10litres in a watering can daily.
As you post it is compact so we keep it.
 
We had one but it was easier for himself to use the watering can, however we got one of the stretchy hosepipes which is much easier to pack away by the time it has shrunk back to fit in its box.
 
I have one but I leave it at home unless I know I am going somewhere that requires a very long hose. The trick to getting it back on the reel is to stretch it out fully, preferably on a slight slope then put some tension on the hose as you reel it in, walking slowly towards it and for the last few yards you should be able to stand still and whip it in.
 
To enable hose to be used partially unwound I bought one of these https://picclick.co.uk/Drinking-Water-Tri-Flow-Flat-Hose-Cassette-15M-Reel-272818996258.html . When not in use the ends are connected to each other to prevent water leaking. Before subsequent use I run water through the hose to dispel any remaining water to make sure it is fresh. I used one of the stretchy hoses for another application but found the flow rate to slow. Not a problem I suppose if you are not in a rush. Not sure if you can get the stretchy ones in drinking water quality hose.

I’ve bought a 200ft extendable Jose, they are fantastic, They just keep extending in length when water is turned on, and shrink themselves when water is turned off. They are simplistic to coil up and stow.
 
Fantastic they may be but are they potable water quality? If not there could be problems accumulating inside. I would beware myself.
 
I have no choice. I have an Alde system which has the flat hose connected to the electrical connector.

You must have been watching me do it! That's exactly the way I reel mine in. I said to the OH "Great minds think alike" and she said "Fools seldom differ" - she's got to have the last word!
 
Fold it in half and roll it up (bin the reel) from the middle. Hanging it over a fence or standing uphill helps. Also make sure it doesn’t have a self sealing end...
 
Ha! Very topical as I got caught out just yesterday. I've had a wind-up flat hose for two years and operating without problems. Yesterday it would not wind-up back. A bit of head-scratching revealed that the hose was not winding on account of being full of water. I'd recently bought myself a heosystems adaptor that connects to my water tank on the van (stops all the hassle with the hose falling out of the mouth of the water tank). It's got a hoselock connection, so of course I'd fitted a mating half on my hose. Of course I'd only gone and fitted one of these self-seal hoselock connectors that stops the water coming out the end of the hose......
The answer was to take the adaptor off the van when the tank was full and then plug it back in to the end of the hose since that defeats the self-seal and let's the water out as you wind the hose.

Every day, another school day....
 
Had the same problem with flat hoses, now have a hoselock 30 metre expandable hose, comes in its own plastic box with a 3 year guarantee, takes up no room in the locker.
Always run water through it before putting it in the tank, and use aquapure tablets as well just in case.
 
We had a problem with our flat hose. It would not go fully back in so cut a small amount off and it goes back in fine now.
 
Hi NIL. Good point on running a hose worth of water first .

Good point also on the additives (another thread maybe?).W We'vejust started using Elsan Elsil every time we fill the tank. I've no objective evidence on how good it is but a) it gives a lot more confidence as our van ages and b) no downside on the taste front.
 
I'm a retired electrician and over the years I've installed many fire alarms, the cable has to be Pyro or FP200.

FP200 being the easiest and cheapest to work with, and as a bonus it comes on plastic reels, so I kept a few of the reels.

Our motorhome is A Mercedes Hymer B680, and it has quite a large "garage", I'll cut the story short as you'll see from the attached piccies.

The top hose is 30 mtr and IS for fresh water only, (I also have a 5mtr hose as the garden hose does not reach the moho) the bottom hose is for grey water only, about 15mtrs long, we generally only visit site's that have ehu, fresh water and grey water drains on the pitch. I also carry a new 10ltr watering can for emergency fill ups.

I also carry a 15mtr flat hose on a reel, sometime's easier to use that, I generally disconnect it from the tap, walk away and the roll it back up, out with the water.

EXCELLENT TIP BY THE WAY TO RUN WATER THROUGH THE HOSE PRIOR TO FILLING THE TANK.

Please excuse the mess as I'm in the moho at the moment carrying out maintenance, and I use the garage as a store during this time.

Are you sure you weren't a fireman in a previous incarnation, that's a serious stock of hoses you have there I'm very impressed.
I carry 2 blue hoses the longest is 4mtrs and if these won't reach I use a carrier - perhaps I'm just lazy.
