Foot and Mouth Disease latest ban on food imports to UK for personal use..

Thanks for that, and it confirms why yesterday, the price of beef significantly increased in a local butcher we use. They cited foot and mouth in Europe as the reason.

No-one wants a repetition of the UK's 2001 outbreak.

That's a blow. I was about to visit a France Passion pig farm that sells pork meals in jars. At least I can still bring back French packet soups!

I'd assume cooked meats are okay?

i returned yesterday through newhaven and can confirm that they are checking fridges etc cloven hooved meats are the problem i used 4 chicken breasts up in the last two days thinking they were banned two for us & two for the dog i thought her sachets of food sealed & purchased in the uk would be ok wrong they were confiscated and the chicken would have been ok duhh at the moment they are relying on an honest declara mostly though they do physically check the fridge i could have easily smuggle stuff through but where i live is very rural and the cattle losses from 25 years ago a vivid memory don’t want to lose another 6 million plus

Not worth taking a chance.

Came via Calais on Tuesday no checks for food or even questions

That's not good at all and potentially how Foot & Mouth could enter the UK.

That was three days after the ruling - Calais officials should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Well done to the Newhaven staff.

The UK side should be even more vigilant, and I expect to see disinfectant mats on both sides too.
