Foot and Mouth

Another screen shot from another forum taken by a non Snowbird. Hope it's useful
I can find no information about foot and mouth disease in France, but there was at least one case in Germany in December 2024/Jan 2025, involving water buffalo, plus one in Hungary.

One can therefore imagine that the UK would indeed step up checks and prohibitions relating to imports from the European continent.

Another thing to worry about.
Thanks for the warning.
Who do we blame for this one ?
Putin, Trump, God.. ?
Ah dunno!

Maybe an April Fool prank?
I don't think so; it would have to be a pretty sophisticated one, given the info on a wide variety of websites, including NFU and French agriculture-related sites, often with datelines preceding 01/04.

Bea asked her mum today while on telephone, her mum knows nothing about the F&M.
Weird!!

Not that weird, because it's in Germany and (IIRC) Hungary, but personal imports from EU are being restricted as a precautionary measure, probably due to difficulty in being sure of the source.

We've just gone from Plymouth to Roscoff. I was surprised to see bikers getting a pat down and panniers searched going out.
They even had some coach passengers getting inspected.
Saw none of that at Dover last year.

We didn't get inspected going out.
I'll let you know what happens on our return.

Just come back from Spain into France, and not see any sign of the disease or precautions to stop it spreading.

When you search gov.uk and enter foot and mouth it will bring up all the current information. Friends entering the UK on the Chunnel shuttle were checked back in March, we returned to the UK by the same route in May but we weren’t searched.

Information is all I've seen so far.

Returned through the tunnel last Thursday.
No questions, or notices anywhere, about meat & dairy products.
Some things were a bit more thorough. Where have you been and for how long? We also had a quick hab area & garage search.

It is disappointing when we take it seriously, but the message doesn't seem to have made it to the front line.

We are off via Newhaven a week Thursday, so no matter the truth of this (I believe it is true) it is better to be forewarned. We usually take a large milk container and spreadable butter out to France, but in ten days the milk certainly would be gone, the butter not so. But we have a cold box under the floor through a hatch and although I wouldn't bring anything possibly dangerous back from France, I will secrete any British products we have left in that box.

I agree with Sharon the Cat, about the less serious stance the border boys and girls seem to take.
