We spent the Saturday night at Brittany ferries carpark ready for our sailing to Caen. We awoke at 6.30am and made our way into the queue, within half an hour we were checked in, got asked a few questions from border force, but they didn't bother to search the motorhome.

I had took a gamble and had some of my favourites in the fridge, which could have been confiscated if they had decided, but I was willing to take the risk.
Once on board I went to reception to see if they had a cabin available as I decided I wanted some extra sleep, we got a 4 berth cabin for £27.00 so went and got a bit more shut eye until 12.30. We then went to the restaurant, but the A la carte was closed due to staff shortages, so we went to the self service restaurant, we both had two courses and a coffee each, the bill I thought was reasonable at £30.00. within an hour it was time to disembark.

It was a pretty smooth operation and we were soon at passport control, again no customs search. We spent the night at an Aire in Caen with full services for €13 euros, next to the hospital. The weather was showery, so rather than get the bikes or the scooter out we decided to catch the number 2 bus from the stop over the road, think it was €1.80 each.

We explored Caen and had a Plat du Jour for lunch before returning back to the motorhome, we topped up at the service point, then got some fuel and LPG and set off to Courseulles Sur Mer very close to Juno beach that was used during the DDay landings, stopping on a free aire, but no services, luckily we emptied and refilled at the previous Aire. There is a market in the town tomorrow, so we will explore the DDay beaches before setting off to Mont Saint Michel tomorrow afternoon.

That's good news about the Ferry..
There's a similar thread running on here..

If you can find it, can you repost this on that ?
Enjoy your travels.
If you're East of Faro, give us a buzz if you've any uncertainties.

Thanks so much for the offer, good to know that your available to share your knowledge, very reassuring. Hope your having better weather there, it's raining again here.

On the food in fridge thing, there is a thread here...

...that should put this to bed.

Indeed , if it was ever a problem in the first place

It was in the early days [the Dutch Border Guard who confiscated the English passenger's sandwich on about Day1], but the clarifications have emerged as the Border Guards become more experienced, and also as the discussions between EU & UK on the practical application of the 3rd Country Rules have continued

Think , even then , you'd have to be incredibly unlucky for anyone to check for trivial things like that .

I think things are gradually easing up.
The restrictions work both ways and many EU , living in the UK, were unhappy with the restrictions.
Common sense seems to be in the air.
You can now send prescription medications into the EU.
DHL won't carry paracetamol.
But Royal Mail will..... At higher Cost .....With a prescription fixed to the outside of the parcel..

we landed at st malo 8:30 this am after the last couple of crossings just brought along what we needed handed over passports and all done prob 5 minutes from ferry ramp to road never been as easy , drizzled all the way with a breeze but made it to a mates at loulay nr st jean de angely 200 miles comfortably by 3 non toll all the way will get past bordeaux tomorrow and cruise only 13/14 degrees but markedly warmer than home no chill factor

We spent yesterday exploring the 5 beaches used in the DDay landings and stayed by a free Aire by Juno beach, we then visited the British and Canadian memorial by Gold beach.

It was very sobering when you realised how many folk lost there lives to give us the freedom we enjoy today, lost count of how many were just 18 years old.

They had a specific motorhome parking place that was just €3 for 6 hours and the parking fees go towards the maintenance of the memorial, which is kept in tip top condition.

We are now parked up in the carpark at Le Mount St Michel, going to explore it today, it's €16 to park for 24 hours and a few shuttle bus runs from this carpark to the mount.

Tonight's stopover is hopefully going to be a vineyard just south of Nantes which is free to stay at and they have a wine tasting session at 17.30, so no doubt we will find a couple of bottles of wine to our liking.

36 hrs after we left st malo arrived at biaritz area 588 miles inc small diversion to see an old mate at loulay only spent €36 on tolls and refilled at st jean de angely intermarche still giving 20% discount so 67 ltrs at €120 became 102 well happy , most fuel is at 187 equivalent to 170 at home with exchange rate , but intermarche was 182.5 then a 20% discount , we came to the aire at anglet supposedly free dec till march but charged €8;10 but it is right on the beach well worth while the two pups ours & joys just went berserk

search for sites nice spot well worth the €8 slept like a log 9 hrs lulled by the sound of the surfView attachment 65472
Thanks for the tip, we are likely to be heading that way soon, spent the day at Mount St Michel before coming south of Nantes at a free stop on a vineyard. N47.179199 W1.43368

They have a shower and toilet, can provide you with electric, water and emptying out. Was supposed to be having a wine tasting session at 5.30 pm, but it was postponed to 10.00am this morning, so out Elaine will be sampling😭 . We are heading south of Poitiers today to stop with my cousin for a few days, he bought a small holding here about 8 years ago and lives here full time.

Well it didn't stay free for long once the wife started the wine tasting, she was liking every bottle, ended up buying one of each. Absolutely wonderful friendly host who can speak fairly good English as well, the vineyard has been in his family for years, produce 150,000 litres per year. He asks you to pin on his map to show were you have come from, quite a few visitors from the UK and he only started doing the map two years ago.

moving on towards the sun but since it’s so mild this year (we recorded 16deg at lunch time ) we decided to go down the center of spain instead of our usual dash south , filled up at alkampo irun on the border deisel 1;65 if you spend €50 get 5 cents a litr off ( meant to say filled up yesterday at intermarche st jean de angely and got the 20% subsidy whether it’s just an intermarche thing couldn’t say)
we’re now at a pub stopover at lerma about 20mls south of burgos heading towards madrid looks good but the spanish eat late food not served till 8:30 going to go in early see if we can get tapas! next Toledo & Cordoba B051249C-A3E3-4BC1-AA56-6E6E08594F9F.png
