Anyone heard anything? We are due to travel through France from Spain next week. We have heard a rumour that the borders are being closed though, weirdly, not the ferries or tunnel.

Fake news...
Well maybe not entirely Maybe checks...but I doubt you will be refused entry as you are going back to uk.
Most blanket bans have proper exceptions !

France has over 2500 miles of border with 11 countries - how do you close all that?

The key word is "rumour".
There were rumours that the Chancellor would increase fuel duty.
Always possible that restrictions will be introduced at some point, but do you really expect authoritative information prior to any official announcement?

Go to the Government websites of UK, Spain and France for the latest news. Those are the only places you'll "hear" anything authoritative.

French borders are still open, but the French authorities have now produced a new "International travel Certificate" for those entering and travelling through France. It is available at:

and for the English language version:

Note that EU and UK nationals should complete the second part of the form (and that after the end of the Brexit transition period there would be no appropriate statement for motorhomers returning through France to the UK). While this category of persons is not required to hold a valid transport ticket, the ability to show one might not go amiss.
