Gas smell

On Friday I bought some LPG from a local petrol station. £1.29 per litre, so that’s 50p more than Locks, nr Hereford .
But that’s beside the point.
On the way home, the smell of gas was noticeable in the van. Once home, I walked around the van, and the smell of gas was again obvious outside, near the fill point. Next to nothing within the gas locker. Overnight the smell had gone. The gauge hadn’t changed, so no leaks from within the van.
This made me think that there was a problem with the fill hose or its fittings.
I stripped everything out today, all tight, nothing obvious wrong with the hose, or the fittings.

So.. has anyone ever had a problem with a garage’s fill nozzle not fitting properly, causing a leakage while filling?
There could of course be a problem with my setup which isn’t obvious. I’ll take the fill hose up to Charlie to see if it is damaged. I need some bits from him anyway, it’ll be just as easy to collect them as have them delivered.

The fill hose will only be full when you fill up Del, it won’t leak back from a cylinder into the high pressure hose unless the non-return valve on a cylinder is faulty. Best get it checked as you say but I think if it doesn’t smell the day after you are good in the meantime. Bell Charlie for confirmation though

We have had this in the past I just put it down to spillage from the bit of blow back that comes from releasing the filling hose at the pump,

I’m beginning to wonder if the “gas leak” was a result of the blowback from the gun onto my sweater. And the reason it had cleared up on Saturday, was because I’d changed my clothes.
If so, it’s another embarrassing Trotter **** up

I make sure I screw up several times a day Del, then Liz just thinks I'm normal.

Ihave found when I fill up at Scarborough there always seems to be a residual smell after. Their connection does not seem to be very good it does not tighten up

I reckon that was my problem.
I always seem to start with the worst possible scenario and then work my way back to the simple, but probably the obvious fault.

Nose to near bum?

You went all the way to Scarborough just to fill up? 😂😂😂

Scarborough? Is that a place?

Only just, I think the Sea is consuming it though :( :(

We had the same and I had the dealer check it out and he said all was fine and blamed the pumps in France.

It kept happening. Eventually we realised that the connector at the back of the locker had come loose, just a bit. So much for the dealer checking it 🙄. Dave tightened it with a spanner 👍

I’ve checked mine Jeanette. All tight. I’m thinking it’s blowback when disconnecting from the pump. I will do more work on it before filling again before Goosenaugh and after visiting Charlie

They put some sort of (oily) chemical into the gas to make it smell on purpose, can't recall exactly, sounds something like marzipan?? When filling you usually get some liquid gas leakage which quickly boils away leaving leaving the 'stinky' oil behind which takes a day or so to evaporate. More leakage=more smell.👍
