Heating ?

Now winter is drawing closer , what type of heating do you use in your van ? , to keep you warm and cosy on the chilly days / nights !

I've only got one option... the Truma gas fire. Absolutely no complaints though because it makes the van toasty in no time and as it's not a blown air system, it doesn't drain the batteries at all.

Diesel heater for us as well

. I would much prefer a gas fire but manufacturer don't fit it any more, they only seem to fit leccy guseling ,unreliable electronics, need servicing ???????? I can see that hot air could be beneficial in a large van with fixed bed

Those old Carver caravan fires used to throw the heat out from what I remember but isn’t it something to do with moisture in the air why they changed to blown air or have I got it wrong? (Probably got it wrong )

those carvers are he bee's knees [i was going to say dog's bollocks but it seemed rude] vented through the floor , no condo problems , wish i'd had room in this van

Alde hot water system with heat exchanger to use heat from engine and also an eberspacher diesel hot water heater to prewarm engine and to provide additional / alternative heat to engine circuit or alde system

A thick jumper does it for me.
It also does it for the environment.
Soft Southerner? Think again.

Colin :):):)
Me too Colin though I did put the blown air heating on once in the outer Hebrides when the beast from the east hit other than that it’s s thick jumper too.

I agree but if they are fitting the Chinese Planar heaters it is possibly doable.

Cheers

We usually use the Truma on Gas and use a fan heater if on electric, which is pretty rare.
However our new van has an electric option on the Truma, but we have not as yet tested it, apart from knowing it works, so I will still take a fan heater!
I found the lecy in the truma is not as hot as gas

Hope it’s better for you folks than Charlie, he reckons n 11kg bottle only lasts him 3days in winter with heating on :(

Electric heating elements can be as little as 1.8 Kw although the Alde system is 3 Kw. Gas is usually between 4 and 6 Kw.

I have the Alde wet system with the optional heat exchanger to warm the van while driving and supply a boiler full of hot water. It also has the engine pre-heat pump fitted. My only complaint about it is the crap heat control dial (Thermostat). It is difficult to set a nice steady heat as it is very unresponsive. I am intending to fit my own thermostat before the cold weather bites.

I use my truma combi, gas if off grid or electric if plugged in. The gas is more powerful, but it’s good on electric too. I love being warm in the van and often leave the heating on all night in winter. Even in very sub zero temperatures it warms the van very quickly on either gas or electric and only cuts in occasionally so doesn’t hurt the leisure battery when not plugged in. I had some problems with it after a year or two, but Truma fixed it at their hq very efficiently.
