New field for me but we seem to be having sever scrote issues around here recently, we live near a pretty bad estate and they started in this area.

is there such a thing as a remote Wifi CCTV camera that doesn't need to be hard wired for power?

I did consider putting up a couple of fake ones, but if I were a scrote I've have made sure I knew what branding they had on them, they tend to dismiss real ones thinking the images are crap anyway.
 
No good here really, the door doesn't face the street or the entrance to the house/property, I need to mount it outside pointing at the back, front and garage at least so a minimum of three plus an inside one perhaps, but I don't want wires all over, solar power might be better perhaps, and I need to be able to monitor or get alerts while away in the van, needs to be fairly cheap too.

I have Blink cameras (Blink is owned by Amazon) and Ring Cameras. All are Battery powered and talk to an app and also display on an Alexa Echo screen if you have one.
For example, Live view of the Front Door on the RING doorbell

I have another RING camera that sits inside on the Window Cill, point to the front and so covering the other side of the Motorhome upto the edge. (only problem with being inside is the motion detection feature doesn't work).
The main reason for these is I spend a lot of time at the top of the house in the LoftStudio so I can see who is coming without having to go down two flights of stairs to find out!

And as well as cameras in the back garden covering the sheds and on the decking covering the rear patio doors, got a BLINK camera in the Motorhome on a totally different WiFi network (These I did get for security).

This connects directly to the router. This is cheaper than the Blink Cameras above and much easier to setup. I prefer this one, but it is inside only and requires Power via USB to work.

You can get Battery or Mains powered versions (they are actually the same, but one comes with a lead, the other with a battery (the one with a lead has space for a battery). I think you can get outdoor ones as well.

This is probably the most useful one for us.

All the above would have been bought during Amazon promotions (black friday or amazon prime day).
 
Non mains cameras tend to suffer from a short time lag between detection and videoing. It can be virtually nothing with strong wifi or longer with poor wifi. If you have a look at Arlo cameras you can link two together. For instance the first camera will pick up movement at a distance and will prompt the second camera to start recording early and therefore gathering more information.
 
Ring do remote cameras we have put some up at my mums since she got burgled you can either just run off batteries or can be hard wired
We just use batteries which last about 3 months,before needing to be recharged
The cameras are very clear and also record voices as well which is also very clear,
Every movement is saved so you can bring it back up at anytime

Ring stick up cam battery, put it anywhere you like and you have remote internet access. It also has an alarm function so should it detect movement and you see it’s a a roar you can set off alarm or indeed speak yourself through the speaker. Quite effective.
 
Having worked in a school with 20 cameras recordig 24 hrs.
No use at all the miscreants wear hoodies or similar.
AND at night
So footage of limited value.
Also police/courts do not accept.
So vigilante reprisals only.
NOT FOR ME.
Camera doorbell useful.
And a large dog.
Why has it come to this ???.

The police and the Courts are required to view all evidence and that includes home shot video and photographs If it can be shown that the footage is genuine and that it relates directly to the matter before the court our that being investigated, it should be considered with any other evidence, verbal or ducumentery.
 
So none of them are much use by the sound of it bar knowing someone is there doing something.

I've ordered some CCTV signs, probably almost as effective as a camera.

We have a couple of Blink Camera's ...the reason we went for these was no wires reqd , find them usefull , there is a small delay but handy to have without them you wouldn't know what's going on around your Property either when at home or away.
 
I bought a wifi remote camera and found it had to be done on a smart ph rather than my pc, as much as i tried the thing on daughter s phone using the squire thingy you take a picture of to get it all working, it fecken dont and its just another waste of money bought of ebay, looks ok up on garage wall so maybe keep the we shisters at bay.
 
So much for and against. The battery cameras are fine but battery usually runs out when away from home. They can also be nicked by the burglar. Because of that I installed cams that record movement and send it to the cloud, but that started getting expensive. I changed to cams that record to my NAS for free and are mains powered. Because there are no batteries I could position them out of reach. I also have CCTV stickers as a deterrent. HOWEVER, is it all worth it? As someone said, the buggers all use hoods or balaclavas now. Even if you get an alert and see someone, the police are too busy to attend in the time required to nab them. So any cam is better than nothing, maybe.

I fitted the Reolink optional small solar panel to each camera. They are permanently charged up, even through Winter. The power fitting on my camera is a standard 5 volt fitting as used on most small appliances. The Reolink solar panel was £25 but I bet there will be much cheaper options online.
