We decided a few years back to downsize the house (our choice) the kids were not happy as the memories were in the house we were selling.so much so my daughter bought it.
The house we have now ,Astra turfed the back, his and her sheds, decked the rear and hot tubbed.
New fences, and planters 4 metres long I made from left over decking .
Front drive tarmac laid with drainage and power in cupboard for hook up for van .
Best things we have done ,go away and the most normally when we return is pick up leaves from trees behind our property .

Leave my son to "maintain" the property, that is if piling up the laundry basket, stacking dirty plates by the sink and outside his bedroom door, is maintenance. better than having an empty house, so must not grumble. :)

Terraced and patioed the back garden, with gritstone walls, retained only perennial bushes, mostly evergreen and drought tolerant, laid horizontal surfaces with either paving or weed control fabric overlaid with slate clippings. Only thing to do is cut hedges twice a year, prune neighbours overhanging branches and sweep up now and then. Happily can be left to its own devices for three months.

nothing different whether at home or away...........it all runs smoothly on ......a wing and a prayer.....

Fitted automatic watering systems so that large plants in pots and plants in the greenhouse can be left for six to eight weeks with no problem, daughter comes around when she remembers to mow the lawns. Everything else is switched off or on smart plugs so can be controlled remotely.

The downside of having a motorhome is that I had to get rid of 'needy' plants. I just have lawns back and front and some Rose Bushes that don't need attention. The only plants that might need attention in a long hot dry spell are my 3 Hydrangeas but our Daughter can water them for us. The Wife frets about the bird feeders not being topped up though.

Again Rented out....
Not trouble free but hassle free as the agents do all the work
So Income and no Bills
Yes there are other issues but for us It works
BUT only as we have a fixed abode elsewhere (for the winter)

Gardener visits every few weeks, hive takes care of heating, very good alarm system.
