Looking to dip tyres into Italy soon. is it simple task to top up with LPG at filling station, what connector is required, I have Spanish and French gas adaptor only. Not sure how far we intend to venture after visiting my sis and bro in law. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Grazie

there was a problem filling up with autogas when we were there something to do with tax levels you had to refill at specialist lpg places best to top up before you enter

There's a very old joke about Italy being shaped like a boot because they fit all that cr*p into a plimsoll ... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

A kinder, equally old joke, is what Italian schoolboys say upon arriving home after lessons; 'Mom, I'm 'ere' (y)
And, finally, no matter how considerate one's own children are, they cannot compete with their German counterparts who are always Kinder ...

Thanks Ken, my sis and bro in law are back here at the moment, I'll ask if they know of fill station near to there Italy home. I know they use bottled gas for cooking, if stuck, I can always try and get hold of a bottle and reg. What about fill adaptor, a google shows what looks like same adaptor used in France, can you confirm, please?

I will certainly top up before crossing over into Italy.....cheers.

I managed a fill of LPG in Italy a couple of years ago without any difficulty. I pulled up to the pump and the station attendant served me. I wasn’t in a town, it was out in the sticks. Use the usual flat French adaptor. I have heard of some place having issues due to the local tax differences between LPG for road fuel and then for cooking. Obviously we are all cooking on gas, not driving.

Could be problematic Terry, we've been a few times and made sure we were topped up in France first. The advice on one of the LPG sites is ...

"It is prohibited to fill LPG by yourself in Italy. So it is impossible fo fill LPG on stations when they are not attended (usually from 19:00 or 20:00 till 07:00 at night). Usually stations along motorways stay open also during the night.

Generally LPG shouldn't be sold for cooking or heating to campervans or motorhomes."

We're heading there in late May, but taking ferry crossing from Split to Ancona, I'll need to check out the LPG situation in Croatia.

Our experience was varied Terry.
Generally speaking, don’t bother with motorway stations, come off the motorway into the nearest small town / village.
Don’t try to fill up yourself, it’s not allowed. The assistant will come and fill you up, and normally will have an adaptor with him. I can’t remember which adaptor was used, we carry all three, but all the stations we used were surprised that we had our own. After a fill, I did tend to show my gratitude with a bottle of wine or similar, because as has been mentioned, it seems only to be sold for propulsion. For reference we used Mylpg.com/eu.
Do keep your eyes peeled for the many potholes over there!

That is brilliant Rog, and should I ever return to Italy in a camper I'll definitely take that advice. Thank you. 👍

We had no real problems, there is I think just one petrol garage chain and Coop that won’t let you fill lpg in motorhome.

Thank you for all your replies with good information. With my two SafeFill tanks, this gives me a total LPG capacity of 35 litres, which I will make sure I have prior to entering into Italy. If I feel I may have issues, I'll ask my bro in law to sort me out with a standard tank and reg, if required.

Cheers...............
