Led strip lights been told to just solder wires straight to led strip, good or bad??

Some LEDs are for Domestic use only and will not tolerate voltages up to 14.4 volts. Just make sure yours are for motorhomes/caravans/cars etc.

I got some voltage regulators from eBay for about £1.50 each. I use them to keep the >14v down to 12v for the more sensitive stuff (‘on’ LEDs in switches were a problem previously).

I have used white 14,.4w 12v led strip in my motorhome for ages - haven't bothered with a regulator and no issues. The white led strips are easy to solder as there is plenty of space on the strip. I also have 7.2w rgb for mood lighting above high cupboards - real nice with 14 million colour variations but you really need the wired joiners for these as the 4 joins are VERY close together. All zoned with remotes. I have a gas soldering gun but Lidl are doing a 2 x AA battery one for £6! Heats to 450 same as gas and wired one. Heats up in about 5 seconds so real good for the money.
