Mercedes Benz Sprinter 311 LWB high roof camper conversion started but not completed. No MOT. Therefore Cheap!
2006 208,382 miles
This is an unfinished project to convert it into a camper van. Unfortunately due to my advancing years and retreating physical fitness I am unable to complete the job. There are good bits and bad bits.
GOOD BITS:
IT’CHEAP. $1700. (pounds, but my PC doesn't have a 'pound' key)
At 208,000 miles it starts immediately and drives like a spirited Sprinter. A recent former owner was a mechanic and there is lots of evidence that it has been maintained very well.
The previous owner told me it has had new injectors. It starts so easily I think this is true but I don’t have the receipt. It has a tow bar.
The following parts are definitely recent:
Alternator
Service items such as filters and oils
All discs and pads
Windscreen washer pump (genuine expensive Mercedes!)
Windscreen wipers
Rear side light
Inside:
The front seats are in very good condition: there are no ‘wear and tear’ marks
The radio CD works
The following work has been done to start its conversion to a camper van:
Floor insulated and laid with wood effect strips
Walls partly insulated
Roof partly insulated
Side walls lined with wood grain panels
Roof level cupboard carcasses fitted
Bed frames fitted
Washroom frame and panels fitted
New gas / electric Truma water heater fitted
Shurflo water pump fitted, with accumulator and filter
70 litre water tank fitted
Most of the plumbing is done
Thetford Cassette toilet included in washroom
Shower tray included in washroom. Shower kit included
Most of the electrical wiring, both 230v and 12v is done
6mm cable run from engine to leisure battery area
Electronic charging relay fitted
Wiring to ceiling lights is fitted
BAD BITS:
There is no MOT. The previous MOT history is good, and the vehicle has done very little mileage since the last one. The last MOT showed as ‘Repair immediately’ an imbalance in the parking brake, and some advisories including emissions, corroded sills, track rod ends, headlight beam aim so there is some work to be done. Don’t come and look at it thinking a quick polish with T cut will make it pass. Bear in mind the little mileage it has done since the last MOT and you might think, as I do, that this most recent MOT was exceptionally severe. Government records for this vehicle do not show any CO rating. I think the MOT station I took it to has used a newer, lower CO emissions pass rate than is correct for this engine.
Sprinter doors always went rusty at the bottoms. You might like to find some rear doors in better condition than this has. A few small dents in the side panels.
Being really picky there are some bits of the cab area ventilation grilles missing.
It would suit someone who wants to complete the conversion to a camper and who can get the MOT work done. Take it to a decent MOT place and you will have less work than where I took it to.
