The owner saw me taking an interest and came over for a chat. Apparently the car originally had one engine driving the front wheels and a second engine driving the rear wheels. The rear engine has been removed a standard rear seat installed.
He was very proud of his car - and I really enjoyed the short chat about it.

My next door neighbour has one of those it is absolutely immaculate. He bought it many years ago and kept it at his holiday house in France and when he sold up he brought it back to the UK.. Every sunday it gets fired up and driven around a little bit, it only ever needed a battery after ten years as the local mechanic in France used to tend it lovingly ,and keep it safe when thay were not there, of course it lived in a dry garage under covers. I think it must be worth a lot more now than when he bought it new.

IIRC a road test of a 2cv back in late 60's recorded that it needed over 1/2 a mile to overtake another car at 50mph ,
my sister and husband had one for a while , it handled their combined 35 stone surprisingly well, if a little unsettled as they individually got in :LOL:

Local farmer in Bythorn in Cambs (1980) had one to herd his cows, amazing over rough ground, when it failed the mot he brought it in for modification, we took a disc cutter to the rear door and took the window frame out, then disc cutter across the rear window, tailgate was removed and the roof was bent down and welded to the floor behind the drivers seat, I think he could get 8 of the old type straw bales in after this mod, we also did this mod on an Austin 1800, wish I had taken photos in them days

I had a brief chat with the owner. A very happy man to be the one to look after this gem for the enjoyment of the next generation.

I saw a huge group of classic Citroen cars and their owners potter alongside the bank of the Tuilière yesterday. An inspiring sight but unfortunately nowhere to stop to record the moment.
So here's a photo of an inspiring place mat for Bill (2cv) instead:

Some serious porn for Bill (2cv) seen earlier today here in the Vendée, France.
It certainly made my pulse race and I felt decidedly light-headed for at least 20 minutes, perhaps longer.
So it might be best if you sit down whilst viewing this image, Bill:

Thank you Colin. Luckily I was sitting when I read the post. Of course, I still have the books that came with my Xantia.

At the Intermarché supermarket on the outskirts of Saumur today they were having a sale of motoring products past their sell-by date.
But then again old stock items to some is porn to others.
